We are recruiting to fill the vacant position below: Job Title: WASH Assistant - Technical Location: Monguno, Borno Start Date: ASAP Contract Period: 4 Months with possibility of extension Job Description

  • In light of the displacement in the north eastern part of Nigeria, NRC is about to start up an emergency response programme in Nigeria to respond to the humanitarian needs.
  • In the coming months, the main focus for NRC would be conflict affected populations including IDPs, returnees and the local communities in Borno State.
  • NRC will initially be starting activities in the area of food security, water and sanitation and shelter/NFI sectors. NRC is therefore seeking a WaSH Technical Assistant in Monguno, Nigeria. The Wash Technical Assistant reports to the WaSH Officer.
Generic Responsibilities These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Development plan:
  • Implement and maintain NRC’s shelter procedures and guidelines
  • Ensure adherence to NRC’s policies and procedures
  • Ensure a that the beneficiaries and community are involved in the project implementation
  • Implement and maintain a filing system for all project documents according to procedures
  • Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  • Participate in the selection of beneficiaries and training for beneficiaries
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the supervisor
Specific Responsibilities:
  • The WASH Technical Assistant is expected to achieve the following during this contract period.
  • To assist WASH Technical Officer in coordination of the WASH Technical activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  • To assist the WASH Technical officer in all aspects of WASH Technical programs planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • To assist in the identification of community water and sanitation needs
  • To develop technical specifications and bills of quantities (BOQ) for works
  • To assess the water and sanitation training needs of the community and assists in the development of appropriate training materials and plans
  • Conducts water quality testing and sanitary inspection at water points
  • Provides technical assistance to the WASH Technical officer and local counterparts on issues of water and sanitation information and communication strategies
  • Assists in the establishment, and training of water point committees as well as monitoring their performance
  • Assists in the compilation of weekly and monthly WASH Technical reports, program documents, project proposals, and budgets
  • Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
  • Assist WASH Technical officer in Breaking down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation plans
  • To assist in ensuring that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the WASH Technical Officer.
  • Monitoring NFI distribution within the communities
  • Assist in site planning activities for Water and sanitation activities implementation
  • Supervise and contribute to the success of WASH Technical activities implementation
  • Performs any other duties as requested by WASH Technical Officer
Qualifications
  • B.Sc or Higher Diploma in Civil, Water Resources Engineering or Geology
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience from working with WASH Technical projects in a humanitarian/recovery context. Experience from working with social work and/or with distribution of humanitarian assistance is an advantage.
  • Previous years’ work experience in community based water, Sanitation programs; Work experience with an NGO is desirable
  • Must have knowledge of emergency Water supply, Hygiene, Sanitation requirements and protocols
  • Familiarity with international minimum standards of Hygiene, Sanitation and shelter service delivery (i.e., SPHERE) is an advantage
  • Must have previous experience in training and Training of Trainers.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and spoken – in English required.
  • Fluency in one or more of the national/regional languages (Hausa and Kanuri preferred)
  • Must be willing to work as a team member, take direction, and share technical skills with colleagues and counterparts
  • Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheets is required,
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, GPS, ArcGIS and Google Earth is strongly desirable
  • Must be able to work under pressure

Specific Responsibilities: The Shelter Officer is expected to achieve the following during this contract period.
  • Conduct regular meetings with community members to discuss program objectives, and mobilize the community participation and act as a mentor throughout the planning and implementation processes.
  • Guide the formation of beneficiary selection committee and village committee
  • Train community project implementation committee members on the community based construction of the shelter project.
  • Routinely monitor the projects activities and feedback findings to the community members and other stakeholders
  • Ensure that the communities are continuously involved and kept uptodate with priority project developments
  • Responsible for generating weekly action plan
  • Monitor the progress of the construction of shelter
  • Assist in facilitating workshops, seminars, and trainings for the community.
Qualifications
  • Higher Diploma or Degree in related field (BAC+5) minimum
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience from working with /NFI, houses construction/repair projects in a humanitarian/recovery context. Experience from working with social work and/or with distribution of humanitarian assistance is an advantage.
  • Must have knowledge of emergency, transitional and permanent construction requirements and protocols

Job Title: Compliance Coordinator Location: Maiduguri, Borno Job Description
  • NRC is seeking a Compliance Coordinator in the NRC field office in Maiduguri, borno State, Nigeria to Coordinate and provide Support to the NRC field office in Maiduguri and hence support NRC in achieving its goal of reaching out to the most vulnerable internally displaced people.

  • Ensure proper allocation of costs to approved budgets and account codes
  • Prepare compliance report on a weekly, monthly basis
  • Follow up on any other duties as assigned by line manager.
  • Ensure that program/ beneficiaries data correspond with financial and logistic reports
  • Ensuring that Procurement, warehouse and Finance document backup system is in place and backup is being done for all documents as per NRC/Donor policies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience from working as a Compliance Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • University Degree in Management Science, Accounting, Social Science or any other relevant field
  • Advanced degree would be an additional advantage
  • Audit Experience is Necessary
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Significant experience in office support/administration in an NGO setting
  • Contextual knowledge of north east Nigeria (Borno State) preferred.
  • Strong communication, coordination and representational skills.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English & Hausa, both written and verbal

Job Title: Borehole Technician Location: Maiduguri, Borno Reports to: The WaSH Coordinator. Generic Responsibilities These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Development plan:
  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Implement delegated wash project portfolio according to plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
  • Supervised construction of boreholes and carry out repair and maintenance of any breakdown boreholes as soon as possible.
  • Receive instruction from WASH coordinator on every borehole sites that needs rehabilitation
  • Work to assist WASH team in borehole site selection, water committee training and any other duties he may be require carrying out by WASH coordinator.
Specific Responsibilities The Borehole Technician is expected to achieve the following during this contract period:
  • Assist to identify existing water point to upgrade or repair with supervision from NRC and in collaboration with others stakeholders recommended by NRC
  • Prepare Bill of Quantity for any borehole that needs repair after technical assessment of the situation has been carried out
  • Supervise the contractor in the borehole construction and give technical guide where applicable during the work load period
  • Assist in setting up and training of water committee
  • Monitor water quality when ask to
  • Prepare progress report and activity report
Qualifications
  • Minimum of SSCE or Diploma in any related courses
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in borehole technical repair especially hand pump
  • Have a good experience of technical component of India mark and Afridev hand pump is highly desire.
  • Have the capacity to couple and decouple any India Mark or Afridev hand pump borehole
  • Recommendation from the community or previous work place
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Knowledge of the North East and indigenes of the North East are a priority
  • Fluency in English and Hausa language are mandatory. A fair Knowledge of Kanuri is an added advantage. Knowledge of other local languages such as Bura, Gwoza, Margi, Chibok are an added advantage
  • Female candidates will be given priority - NRC aims to reach 75% female.
