She Writes Woman Mental Health Initiative is a women - led movement that gives mental health a voice in Nigeria by empowering people living with mental health conditions to tell their own stories, advocate for their own rights and co-create their own solutions. We do this by creating safe places to normalize mental health conversations.

Since its inception in 2016, She Writes Woman has reached over 2 million people globally and directly supported over 3,500 people across Nigeria through our helpline, support groups, mental healthcare, policy advocacy, and partnerships.

We are recruiting to fill the postiion below:

 

 

Job Title: Helpline Counselor

Location: Remote
Employment Type: Full time

Overview
In October 2020, She Writes Woman launched our 24/7 toll-free helpline where anyone who needs mental health support can access it on the spot immediately they call the number. Now, we need trained and experienced mental health professionals to offer support to our callers.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the 24/7 helpline all hours of the day, seven days a week.
  • Educate callers on adequate coping mechanisms/methods for callers to get through tough situation.
  • Collect and record callers data to be used for impact.
  • Assess callers through detailed conversations, interviews, and observations to determine the appropriate testing or examination.
  • Encourage callers to discuss emotions and experiences.
  • Help callers define goals, plan action, and gain insight.

Requirements

  • A degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Coaching.
  • Prior work experience in the development space is a strong added advantage.
  • Empathy for clients.
  • Basic data collection and impact measurement knowledge.
  • Confidentiality with client information.
  • Prior experience in counseling, coaching, or psychotherapy.
  • Tech savviness and prior experience carrying out Tele-counseling/teletherapy.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Salary
NGN 120,000 Monthly
