We are recruiting to fill the position below:   Job Title: Counselor (Educator) Code: MT03400 Location: Pulka, Borno Report to: Mental Health Activity Manager Report to (functional): Mental Health Activity Manager Working Hours: 48 Hours per Week Contract Duration: 6 Months Renewable Starting Date: 15 March 2020 Level: 5
Main Purpose
  • Perform counseling and / or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve their psychosocial condition.
Accountabilities
  • Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counselors, preserving confidentiality
  • Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
  • Take active part in trainings, supervisions/intervisions and support the activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health / psychosocial issues.
  • Discuss difficulties and problems in counseling with supervisor.
  • Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients
  • Actively promote the availability of counseling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
  • Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary in order to propose the best support available.
  • Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it,
MSF Section / Context Specific Accountabilities
  • Providing mental health assessment and counselling to patients with chronic diseases
  • Actively participating in PMTCT programme and providing counselling
  • Conducting support groups to patients that meet the criteria.
  • Providing patient education support counselling in HIV/TB patients
  • Providing adherence counselling to HIV/TB patients according to MSF protocol
  • Providing enhanced adherence counselling to HIV/TB patients according to MSF protocol
Requirements
  • Languages: English and Hausa essential. Local language desirable (Kanuri, Mandra)
  • Knowledge: Essential computer literacy ( word, excel and internet)
  • Competencies: Results, teamwork, flexibility, commitment, service, computer skills.
  • Education: Essential Degree / Diploma in Counseling, Social Work. Desirable Degree/Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery.
  • Experience: 1 year experience essential. Experience with NGO desirable
Salary NGN 3,014,622 (Annual Basic salary + 13th Month) As per the MSF salary scale (National contract)
