Water Trucking Supervisor at International Medical Corps

Job Title: Water Trucking Supervisor
Location: Damboa, Borno
Job Summary
- Under the supervision of WASH Manager, the Water trucking supervisor will be responsible for water supply system supervision, with emphasis on water (trucking, jetting and boreholes) testing, daily monitoring of water quantity supplied. And making certain water is safe for human consumption as per the SPHERE standards, WHO and Nigeria standards for drinking water quality (NSDWQ).
- He/she be able to perform a variety of technical duties, for example inspecting, sampling, monitoring, and testing, and work with internal water monitors and vendors to ensure uninterrupted portable water is being delivery, to participate in house-to-house water safety planning, prepare all field written material, elaborate clear and adapted message for beneficiaries on water point management, oversee activities of water monitors and other WASH activities conducted by the community volunteers.
Main Responsibilities
The water trucking supervisor will be responsible for:
- Conduct regular documentation of water trucking records and supervise water supplies.
- Selection and training of the Water Monitors and Pump Operators.
- Conduct regular on the spot water quality and quantity checks and recording.
- Carry out work according to technical guidelines and estimates.
- Prepares sample bottles for field work, including cleaning, adding chemical preservatives, labeling, and organizing sample transport in accordance with method requirements.
- Write weekly and monthly water consumption report.
- Working & communicating with community about water safety management.
- Report the progress of the work to supervisor.
- Report challenges and successes during the activities, and any other issues that require IMC follow-up/action.
- Conduct household assessments in regards to water usages.
- Oversees the distribution of chlorine and water testing kits to volunteers.
- Prepares reagents and standards for both routine and non-routine analyses and maintains accurate, relevant, and timely records.
- Conduct regular Jar Test, turbidity and FRC and document results.
- Supports water monitors in developing Standard Operating Procedures (Sop).
- Provide support to other areas of the department as may be required by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- B.Sc or HND in Geology, life sciences or any relevant water treatment technical qualification.
- At least two (2+) years experience with a non-profit, non-governmental organization or community development experience.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Word.
- Excellent English writing written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
- Flexible and, able to cope with stressful situations
- Demonstrated skill in capacity building at community level.
- Experience in hygiene promotion, water quality monitoring, and community mobilization.
- Communicate skill in Hausa & Kanuri is an added advantage.
- Excellent experience with Microsoft Excel, Power Point, etc.
