Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (Caritas Nigeria), is a Not-for-Profit Humanitarian and Development Agency established by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), to coordinate at the national level, the social development interventions of the Catholic Church in Nigeria.  Caritas Nigeria works to fight hunger, disease, and ignorance as well as responds to humanitarian crises and emergencies by mobilizing resources from within and outside the Church to meet the basic needs of affected persons, regardless of religion, nationality or ethnicity.

Job Title: Livelihoods Program Assistant

Location: Nigeria

Project Background

  • The Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Vibrant Communities project is a two-year Agriculture and Livelihoods Program implemented in Ekiti and Lagos States, with funding from Conrad Hilton Foundation. 
  • The overall goal of the project is to build the capacity and empower women, men and youth through climate smart agricultural production, vocational skills and acquisition, and facilitate increased access to markets and financial inclusion

Job Summary

  • The Livelihoods Assistant, will work closely with the Senior Associate, Agriculture and Livelihoods and will be responsible for the Livelihoods activities such as liaising with relevant stakeholders, beneficiary registration, placement, monitoring and reporting on livelihoods/vocational skills activities. 
  • The Livelihoods Assistant will monitor and manage various livelihoods related initiatives and coordinate, plan, supervise the implementation of various awareness session, training sessions, collaborations with other CSOs/NGOs etc. 
  • S/he will also provide a daily and weekly activity reports to Senior Associate, Agriculture and Livelihoods

Job Description

  • Assist in liaising with various community stakeholders and mobilize them to ensure full involvement of community leaders and community representative and local government representatives in the overall implementation and improvement of project activities.  
  • Ensure that the project engages local stakeholders and develops local capacity for longer term sustainability
  • Conduct daily project site visits to monitor trainers/facilitators/vendors and beneficiaries of skills acquisition programs to ensure that training schedules are kept, training methodology quality and conducive environment, and that beneficiaries are making good progress within allotted time for timely graduation.
  • Coordinate and supervise community mobilizers and volunteers’ activities. 
  • Report serious indiscipline to supervisor immediately 
  • Facilitate post distribution monitoring and impact visit to project beneficiaries for impact assessment and success stories reporting purposes 
  • Proper documentation of project activity reports          
  • Provide regular and timely updates on progress and challenges to supervisors and other team members;
  • Assist project teams with other activities,
  • Lead in identifying suitably qualified graduants for empowerment with start-up kits
  • Keep daily/weekly record to track beneficiaries progress and effective skills acquisition
  • Participate in project reviews and planning workshops and assist the Senior Associate, Agriculture and Livelihoods in preparing weekly and monthly, narrative reports and other reports as required. 
  • Organize safe return and keeping of all equipment to the office and account for them 
  • Alert Agriculture and Livelihoods Senior Associate of issues in the field
  • Perform any other related activities as assigned by supervisor. 

Qualification and Experience

  • B.Sc or Higher National Diploma in Business Management or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience in the relevant filed.  
  • Excellent skills in monitoring implementation of program activities.
  • Managing resources and achieving results 
  • Ability to write reports.  
  • Computer literate: proficient in use of Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in partnership with local communities and other NGOs as appropriate.

  • Good writing skills in English.
  • Understand and speak the local language (Yoruba). Resident in local environment

  • Excellent listening skills and conflict resolution skills 
  • Possess good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a timely manner
