Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency.
PUI has been implementing humanitarian activities in Nigeria since April 2016, supporting population with food security, nutrition, health and protection project in Maiduguri and Borno State.

Job Title: Nutrition Supervisor
Location: Monguno, Borno
Starting date: ASAP
Duration of contract: 3 Months (with possible extension)
General Objective
- Working under the guidance and supervision of the Nutrition DPM, the Nutrition Supervisor oversees all activities at CMAM sites, screening, health education, treatment and follow up of children with malnutrition and record keeping.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Overall lead in CMAM treatment points
- In liaison with the medical staff refer for medication or dispense routine medication as per Nigerian protocol
- Supervise malnutrition screening, admissions, recording of beneficiary information
- In liaison with deputy nutrition manager, develop list for home visits and defaulter tracing for Nutrition supervisor to follow up by community nutrition mobilizer
- Act as a liaison with the beneficiaries, local population and authorities in order to identify the need, grievances and major events that could have potential consequences for PUI activities
- Represent PUI at various nutrition related for as may be required

Job Title: Health Supervisor
Location: Monguno - Borno State

General Objective
- Under the direct supervision of the Health Deputy Project manager, the Health Supervisor provides patients management in collaboration with Midwife and other team members.
- S/he follows PUI protocols and standards to ensure quality and continuity of care, promotion and restoration of health of the patients and population, ensure supervision of care
Responsibilities and Tasks
Activities implementation:
- Ensure consultations and nursing duties organization, including triage, dressings, injections, and distribution of drugs according to nurses’ protocols, precautions, hygiene standards, and clinicians’ prescriptions
- Verify on a daily basis that the consultation rooms are provided with necessary equipment and consumables
- Provide technical support to the clinician for diagnoses and management cases
- Assist the clinicians in the management of the referral cases
- Ensure that health education according to the protocols and key messages are well provided
- Evaluate the quality of consultations by assessing clinicians once or twice/month
- Propose any implementation of medical protocols, update it if necessary, and ensure that the medical staff follow it
- Monitor the rational use of medicines and the proper administration of treatments in step with national international protocols

Drugs And Medical Equipment Management:
- Ensure that PHC is properly supplied with materials and drugs
- Prepare drugs and materials requests in collaboration with the team, DPM and SRH supervisor
- Ensure that expiry dates of drugs are checked
- Ensure that drugs and materials storage respect standard rules (hygiene, notification, stock cards…)
- Ensure that the medical material is clean and sterilized
Team Management:
- Plan Monthly schedule for the team member with DPM and PHC In-charge, and follow up
- Manage staff timetable, annual leaves, and attendance sheets
- Organize teamwork regarding team capacity in order to cover all PHC needs
- Ensure the respect of Première Urgence Internationale rules and inform the DPM of any disrespect of the rules
- Participate in the regular evaluation of medical staff in collaboration with the DPM

Job Title: Sterilization Technician

General Objective
- Under the direct supervision of Health Supervisor, the sterilization technician is carrying out sterilization of medical equipment, instrument and surfaces, according to PUI protocols and procedures and (international) hygiene standards, in order to ensure an efficient quality of care and safe environment, in collaboration with other team members.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Sterilization Of Medical Equipment:
- Ensure the quality of care provided to patients in PUI facilities through sterilization of equipment
- Ensure availability of sterilized instruments and material in every department
- Take medical devices used from different department to the sterilization room
- Organize and pack all instruments according to the sets and labeling them correctly
- Sterilizing all instruments according to PUI protocol
- Monitoring the efficiency of the sterilization cycle taking note at register
- Deliver the instruments to different wards or departments
- Preform inventory of equipment and materials
- Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user manual and protocols

Job Title: Nutrition Officer

General Objective
- Under the direct supervisor of the nutrition supervisor, the nutrition officer will help organize and undertake nutrition education / sensitization and community screening activities at community level
- The nutrition officer will be responsible to ensure that educational messages are delivered to beneficiaries as per set targets and with the upmost quality regarding accuracy, efficiency and culturally sensitivity to optimize the adoption of healthier behavior among mothers of children under five.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Implementation and Monitoring of the Nutrition Activities:
- Responsible for day to day management of nutrition activities at Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) or IYCF project sites according to the standardized protocols, policies and guidelines outlined by the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and/or Global nutrition standards
- Participate in the identification of eligible project beneficiaries and Community Focal persons including Community Nutrition Mobilsers, Lead Mothers according to assignment
- Participate in organising Project beneficiaries and Volunteers into groups and other Fora for dissemination of nutrition messages
- With the support of CMAM or IYCF Supervisors, participate in the planning and in the implementation of trainings for the beneficiaries, volunteers and community focal persons

- Ensure OTP beneficiary absentee or defaulter tracing and other forms of beneficiary follow-ups at community level

Job Title: Laboratory Technician

General Objective
- PUI is now looking for its Health team in Monguno. Under the direct supervision of the Health Supervisor, the laboratory technician performs clinical laboratory activities according to PUI protocols, security and hygiene measures in order to obtain results to determine the patient’s treatment, in collaboration with other team members.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Patient Care:
- Collect and prepare blood, vaginal and urethral samples with appropriate techniques and following protocols and procedures strictly following health and safety procedures
- Prepare and organize efficiently the laboratory material/equipment
- Ensure proper sample waste disposal according to protocols and highest safety standards
- Dispose of waste management according to waste management procedures
- Clean and sterilize the medical material
- Check expiry dates of lab materials

Job Title: Midwife Assistant

Background
- The PUI Nigerian Mission has been officially opened in April 2016, with a focus on meeting urgent needs, including improving access to food commodities, primary health care and nutrition for Internally Displaced People (IDP) and host communities (HC) living in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).
- The progressive sectorial widening allowed PUI to start implementing an integrated approach from 2017 in food security, livelihoods, and nutrition and health sectors, with the support of ECHO, FFP, OFDA and CIAA/CDC, in line with PUI’s global strategy. From the launch of the health care services in February 2017 to the end of April 2018, a total of 119 913 OPD consultations were reached in Bolori II, while more than 60.000 beneficiaries have been reached by our cash project.
- In mid-2018, PUI has developed its comprehensive response by adding Protection and Community Outreach (PCO) activities to the existing programs in Bolori II. In the month of October 2018 only, more than 3.500 households have received door to door visit from the PCO team. In 2018, PUI has also scaled up its intervention with the opening of Monguno LGA base, with the main objectives of reducing morbidity and mortality of the most vulnerable population and promoting protection amongst the whole affected community. This opening in Monguno allowed PUI to reach the vulnerable population in Kukawa and Kroskawa LGA.
General Objective
- Under the supervision of the Health Supervisor, the Midwife Assistant will assist the midwife in providing Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MHCH) care and SRH care services, including Ante Natal Care (ANC), Post Natal Care (PNC), basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care and family planning.
- S / he will follow PUI obstetrical and sexual reproductive health protocols and universal standards to ensure the quality and continuity of care.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Patient Care:
- Prepare all the material and equipment and ensure that everything is ready before starting the activities
- Perform rapid evaluation of sick pregnant women, including vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, respiration); and concurrently finding out the history of present and past illnesses either from her or relatives
- Assist Midwife to perform antenatal consultations including screening tests according to the protocols, detect and mention all the risk factors
- Assist midwife to conduct delivery according to the protocols, precautions, hygiene standards
- Assist midwife to perform postnatal consultations during the 6 weeks following the delivery
- Observe changes in the condition of women in ANC, labor and report promptly to the midwife
- Assist midwife to perform family planning consultations and counseling according to protocol
- Give systematic prophylactic treatments to pregnant women
- Verify the tetanus vaccination of each pregnant woman
- Inform the midwife about the condition of a pregnant woman who may need quick intervention before referral to a higher level of care
- Assist the midwives in clinical areas with obstetric emergencies and referrals according to PUI protocols and regulation
- Assist the midwife to resuscitate a pregnant /postpartum women/newborn before transfer
- Follow initial assessment done by a midwife and continue care plan, undertake routine observation and report any abnormalities to the midwife
- Identify Sexually Gender-Based Violence victims and collaborate with the medical team for treatment
- When requested by the Midwife explain clearly the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and ensure that the patients comply with the treatment
- Assist midwives with admission and discharge of mothers and babies
- Support women with personal hygiene as required
- Monitor and measure fluid intake and output and record on the chart
- Take accurate vital signs and document on the chart and report concerns to the midwife
- Collect and label specimens as instructed by midwife and send to the laboratory
- Decontaminate instruments as per set standards, before sending to the sterilization unit
- Provide individual and group health education to patients concerning safe motherhood, care of the new born, IYCF (Infant and Young child feeding), Family Planning and general Sexual Health

Job Title: Midwife
Location: Monguno - Base
Contract Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 3 months (with possible extension)
Overal Mission
General objective:
- Under the direct supervision of the Health Supervisor, the Midwife provides Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH)/SRH care services, including Ante Natal Care (ANC), Post Natal Care (PNC), Basic Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care, and family planning, etc.
- S/he follows PUI obstetrical and Sexual Reproductive Health protocols and universal standards to ensure quality and continuity of care.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Patient Care:
- Prepare all the materials and ensure that everything is ready before starting the activities
- Perform antenatal consultations including screening tests according to the protocols, detect and mention all the risk factors.
- Conduct delivery according to the protocols, precautions, hygiene standards
- Perform postnatal consultations during the 6 weeks following the delivery, give appropriate treatment and refers to secondary care when needed
- Perform family planning consultations and counseling according to protocol
- Give systematic prophylactic treatments to pregnant women
- Verify the tetanus vaccination of each pregnant woman
- Manage SRH emergency cases with the assistance of the Health Supervisor according to PUI protocols and regulation
- Identify Sexually Gender-Based Violence victims and collaborate with the medical team for treatment
- Explain clearly the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and make sure that the patients comply with the treatment
- Request for a 2nd evaluation of the patient when needed
- Provide individual health promotion during consultations
- Give health education sessions to the patients in the waiting areas
- Execute any action requested by the DPM, Health Supervisor as part of the outbreak response plan
- Actively participate in the good cohesion and coordination of the team.
- Record on a readable manner the health status and medical prescription
- Participate in the follow-up of waste management according to the waste management procedures
- Participate in any other activities such as vaccination, survey etc. according to the needs and as directed
- Maintain the working environment in a clean and presentable state
Management of an Efficient Referral System:
- Manage the emergency and electives referral cases according to the referral protocol by facilitating the logistics including transportation means, appointment with specialists, laboratory tests etc. in collaboration with Health supervisor
- Follow up the referred cases, and check the outcome
- Ensuring appropriate follow-up care has been given and taking appropriate action if further care is needed
- Identify and refer patients who need mental health consultation
Medical Data Collection and Reporting:
- Record accurately and on a readable manner, the clinical case management on the patient health card (history taking, physical examination, treatment, investigation, etc.), and patient registration book
- Ensure an accurate daily use and tracking of epidemiological data
- Participate in the daily tracking of consumption of the drugs and materials used from the medical box
- Collect general information about the people living conditions
- Participate in the weekly medical statistic report in collaboration with SRH Supervisor and the deputy program manager
- Ensure a clear verbal and written hand over at every end of the shift, with emphasis on specific events
- Report to the supervisor any problem especially the gap/loss/robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines or any patient and organizational issue
- Inform the direct supervisor of the various needs
Internal And External Representation:
- Participate actively in meetings when required
- Participate in any training in order to improve the quality and efficiency of nursing cares and duties

Priorities of the Department
- Ensure the quality of care provided to patients in pui health facility
- Scale up on the plan should be developed according to the time frame
- Assessment on pregnant and lactating women, reproductive age women to identify risk factor
- Build the capacity of the community health workers, nurses on thematic related to sexual and reproductive health
- Provide frequent feedback on health – illness patterns observed in the outreach site that require further assessment
- Report to line manager periodically regarding context changes that affect the modality of intervention
Mandatory Requirement
- Language Skills: Fluent in English and Hausa, good knowledge in Kanuri is an asset
- Education degree: Recognized Midwife degree (at least certificate level) with national legislation
- Work experience: At least 2 years of experience in Midwifery. Work experience with other NGO’s would be an asset
