Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, international organisation. The organisation is made up mainly of doctors and health sector workers and is open to all other professions, which might help in achieving its aims.

Médecins Sans Frontières assists populations in distress, to victims of natural or man - made disasters and to victims of armed conflict. They do so irrespective of race, religion, creed, or political convictions.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 



Job Title: Country Representative Advisor
Contract Period: 1 year (May 2021-22) with the possibility to extend
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Contract

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Map the political, authorities - government and military - and civil society actors at the national level and maintain a central contact database that is regularly updated with contacts from high-ranked civil and security personnel.
  • Advise the Country Representative before meetings regarding risks and mitigation measures and protecting and promoting the MSF image externally in interaction with government officials and affiliated.
  • Analyze how MSF is perceived in the country and make recommendations to address any misperceptions.
  • Develop and report on in-depth analysis and trends of political, social, and security dynamics across Nigeria and the region.
  • Develop relationships with actors at various levels of representation in Nigeria. Alongside the Country Representative, represent MSF in meetings or negotiations and preparing comprehensive reports.

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Having a vast existing network of government, other authorities, and civil society actors is a pre-requisite
  • Four (4) years of experience in a similar position
  • Strong analytical skills (ability to gather, organise, visualise, and assimilate information, accompanied by pertinent patterns and conclusions)
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel
  • A degree in political science, law, journalism, conflict studies, or a related social science field.
  • Diplomatic and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Commitment to MSF principles

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of local language: Hausa or Kanuri
