Job Title: Transportation Manager
Location: Lagos

Responsibilities
- Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking trucks.
- Plan, organize and manage the work of subordinate staff including drivers and maintenance teams to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
- Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints regarding delivery time and quantities. Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
- Promote safe work activities by conducting vehicle, driver and loader safety and behavioural audits, running driver and staff safety meetings.
- Develop criteria, application instructions, procedural manuals, and contracts in alignment with federal and state public transportation protocols.
- Set operations policies and standards, including determination of safety procedures for the handling of dangerous goods.
- Recommend or authorize capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property in order to increase efficiency and services of logistics department.
- Prepare management recommendations for the logistics department.
- Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientation, quality improvement and computer use.
- Participate in union contract negotiations and settlements of grievances.
- Monitor maintenance spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
- Direct and coordinate, through subordinates, activities of logistics department in order to ensure correct use of equipment, facilities, and human resources.
- Lead the preventative maintenance program to ensure over 90% truck uptime and reliability and no breakdowns on the roads.
- Direct activities of staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
- Conduct investigations in cooperation with government agencies to determine causes of transportation accidents and prepare learning lessons from these accidents to improve safety procedures.
- Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits through lowering of maintenance expenses and improving services.
- Negotiate and authorize contracts with equipment and materials suppliers and monitor contract fulfillment.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, business management, engineering, or related field.
- At least two years' experience as a transportation manager in a similar industry.
- Experience working with transport management systems and warehouse management softwares.
- Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Good conflict resolution skills.
- Solid knowledge of the transportation industry and logistics.
- Experience working with union contracts and transportation-related government regulations.
- Critical thinking skills and knowledge of analytics.
