Action Against Hunger works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. We are recruiting to fill the position below:     Job Title: Sector Manager - WASH Location: Monguno, Borno Job Type: Full Time Job Summary

  • The position is based in Monguno, Borno State and reports directly to the OFDA Project Manager
  • The Sector Manager is responsible for monitoring and supporting the successful implementation of WASH projects in Borno State according to the project objectives.
Task and Responsibilities
  • Ensure appropriate design, construction and implementation of WASH hardware according to technical standards as well as proper maintenance and use of WASH equipment mostly in health facilities.
  • Design, estimate and provide B&Q of the water and sanitation activities to be undertaken in coordination with the officers, report immediately any changes required in design and cost beyond the scope of approved budget.
  • Implements, in the framework of projects, the mission’s WASH strategy taking into account the key internal and external documents: Action Against Hunger charter, strategic framework, policies amongst others.
  • Ensure that all data and information are updated, well organized and easily accessible including the capitalization of lessons learnt and best practices.
  • Analyze and report on the evolving humanitarian needs and provide clear recommendations for interventions.
  • Conducts needs assessments.
  • Participate in the definition of the WASH strategy for Action Against Hunger as well as identification and design of potential new intervention areas.
Position Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering or Public Health Degree (Bachelors or equivalent/higher).
  • Additional training courses specific to WASH in development contexts (such as bioforce Institute graduate), and/or Program Management professional certifications, strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience in a WASH management/supervisory capacity.
  • Strong computer literacy, organizational and planning skills, report writing, budget oversight.

Application Deadline 7th September, 2018.     Job Title: Deputy Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Location: Monguno, Borno Job Type: Full Time Job Summary
  • The position is based in Monguno, Borno State and reports to the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager.
  • The Deputy Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Manager will play a key role in supporting the M&E Manager in the accountability and quality control of Action Against Hunger program implementation in Borno State, Nigeria.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Assist to lead the operationalization of M&E systems for AAH programs to ensure compliance with donor and AAH M&E standards.
  • Collaborate with PMs and M&E staff to ensure development of high-quality M&E plans for each project, including logical frameworks, indicators, measurement plans, and work plans; periodically assess progress against M&E plans and workplans.
  • Collaborate with PMs and M&E staff to ensure standardized, high-quality M&E tools are developed and rolled out for each project, collation of the base 5W matrix monthly report in a timely manner.
  • Support the utilization and learning from M&E systems at the project and mission-level.
  • Effectively supervise M&E Officers and coordinate the M&E team under the supervision of the M&E Manager
  • Provide oversight to ensure appropriate and rigorous M&E systems are developed to guide project start-up, implementation, adjustment, accountability and learning in compliance with AAH’s M&E Guidelines and Minimum Requirements for M&E.
  • Assist the M&E Manager in the development and implementation of a central information management system platform.
  • Support in the establishment of mobile data collection systems; train staff as needed; and provide troubleshooting support.
  • Support the development and implementation of feedback mechanisms; ensure complaints are appropriately investigated and addressed based on AAH standard operating procedures.
Position Requirements
  • Degree (preferred) in Statistics, Mathematics, Humanitarian Affairs, International Development, Public Health, Epidemiology, Economics, or other Social/Developmental Sciences.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in the Monitoring, Evaluation and Accountability of humanitarian or development programs.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating  donor (i.e. USAID, ECHO, DFID, CIDA) funded activities.
  • Skills on statistical and other software (MS Excel, SPSS, SPHINX, STATA, EPI Info, ENA for SMART, GIS, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word).
  • Experience in humanitarian M&E.

    Job Title: Gender Officer Location: Damaturu, Yobe Job Type: Full Time Job Summary
  • This position is based in Damaturu, Yobe State and reports directly to the Sector Manager-Social Protection.
  • The Gender Officer will lead and support the implementation of all gender equality and mainstreaming initiatives and strategies funded by ECHO in the mission.
Task and Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and ensures implementation of Action Against Hunger minimum standards on Gender mainstreaming in humanitarian and in development projects in Nigeria mission.
  • Support capacity building for project teams and organizational development for local government stakeholders.
  • Leads and conduct gender analysis, technical studies, assessments on gender in social protection projects.
  • Provides technical input on Gender mainstreaming and/or coordinate technical support on gender sensitive programming in WASH, nutrition, social protection sectors with relevant sector specialists if required.
  • Leads in integrating gender into MEAL processes in operation areas; setting of specific indicators for process monitoring and follow up that, advising team in getting gender specific information through spot monitoring and Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) process,
  • Initiates innovative documentation process to capture learning and changes, support team to get sex, age and gender disaggregating data.
  • Supports local stakeholders in organizing and carrying out advocacy and campaign for greater gender equality and equity in social protection programmes.
  • Engages with state and local women’s rights organizations and mobilize collective voice around gender discrimination in the post conflict setting.
  • Take the initiative to understand the logical framework and review the Gender mainstreaming indicators (LFA) of the ECHO project accordingly.
  • Ensure the compilation of need/feasibility assessments and related reports. These reports must be well synthesized, documented and transmitted to the Sector Manager Social protection and the Multi sectoral PM.
  • Contribute ideas based on field experiences in informing gender equality and equity and Training manuals as requested.
  • Responsible for supervising and quality assurance of all Gender equality and mainstreaming interventions in a given LGA of intervention.
Position Requirements
  • Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Sender Studies, or any related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in design, development and management of gender Equality in social protections programme including a minimum of 1 year in a field coordination role.
  • Proved experience in displacement and durables solutions contexts.
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of protection principles, gender mainstreaming and women’s rights, in areas of early recovery and resilience building.
  • Demonstrated experience of working in collaboration with local partners and government institutions;
  • Well-developed analytical and strategic planning skills with the ability to influence the wider programme strategy;
  • Demonstrated experience of conducting trainings, and providing capacity building to local partners and beneficiaries on gender issues;

    Job Title: FSL Assistant - Agro Location: Bade, Yobe Job Type: Full Time Slot: 4 Openings Job Summary
  • The position is based in Bade, Yobe state and directly supervised by the FSL Officer-Agro. The FSL Assistant is responsible for the implementation of agricultural activities within the assigned LGA.
Task and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate community mobilization, meetings and trainings during community led agriculture activities;
  • Work with traditional committees to ensure the identification and selection of the most vulnerable IDPs and host communities and provide information to ensure accountability, fairness and transparency during implementation of activities.
  • Work closely with community structures to follow up on implementation of agriculture planned activities with the support from the agriculture officer.
  • Support in the implementation of agricultural capacity building training for the target beneficiaries at the LGA level.
  • Directly implement in the field the activities defined in the program in close collaboration with the agriculture officer.
  • Collect information to ensure that the surveillance of the agriculture situation in the area of implementation of the program is achieving the expected result, when required.
  • Collect the required information in the field to facilitate the capacity building and training program, with the support of the agriculture Officer.
  • Implement sensitisation activities for targeted communities about agricultural activities and strengthening livelihood restoration activities with support from SEMA, Extension workers, Community Volunteers, traditional leaders and other key stakeholders in feasible livelihood restoration activities at LGA level.
  • Support in the verification of the beneficiaries to ensure the identification and selection of the most vulnerable population is verified before agricultural assistance is made.
Position Requirements
  • Minimum of Diploma in FSL related studies e.g. agro-economy, natural resource management, anthropology, disaster risk management etc.
  • Minimum of one year relevant work experience in INGO.

    Job Title: FSL Officer - Agro Location: Bade, Yobe State Job type: Full Time Slot: 2 Openings Job Summary
  • The position is based in Yobe State and supervised by the Sector Manager-FSL. The FSL Officer is required to lead field team in the implementation of agriculture activities of the project through livelihood interventions, business management, technical trainings and capacity building to improve skills or production in new/pre-existing livelihood assets.
Task and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate community mobilization towards farmers’ field school and small holders gardening.
  • Work with traditional committees to ensure the identification and selection of the most vulnerable beneficiaries for cash/asset for work.
  • Support in the implementation of capacity building training including field training and workshops for the target beneficiaries on vegetable production, seed conservation, farm management and storage.
  • Supervise and compile information to ensure that the surveillance of the farming situation in the area of implementation of the program is achieving the expected result, when required.
  • Support the M&E team in analysis of beneficiary data collection through the various tools.
  • Contribute to the development of project community mobilisation strategies for targeting and registration of beneficiaries for the agricultural production activities.
  • Implement field activities for targeted communities about agricultural activities and strengthening nutrition sensitive agriculture with support from relevant State, LGA and community stakeholders at LGA level.
  • Collate information and data on agricultural activities through surveys, assessments, regular post distribution monitoring and field supervision visits of beneficiary households.
  • Collaboration with other partners including relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in writing situation reports with information on food security, security information at the community when required.
Position Requirements
  • Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture or any other related fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience in humanitarian contexts with at least 1 year in conflict/insecure contexts.
  • Have previous experience managing FSL interventions (i.e. cash based transfer, IGA, agriculture/livelihoods).
  • Have excellent team, budget and project management and representation competencies.
  • Strong computer literacy, organizational and report writing.
