Intersex Nigeria (Center for Healthcare Development and Youth Empowerment) is an intersex-led and focused Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria. We promote and advocate for the sexual reproductive health, self-determination, bodily autonomy, and overall human rights of intersex people in all diversity in Nigeria. Through community building, advocacy, evidence-based research, empowerment, educational and informational resources on intersex-related issues to the public, partners, stakeholders, and our community. We want to see a society where intersex bodies are not stigmatized and discriminated against, and where intersex rights are recognized and respected.

Job Title: Finance Officer

Location: Abuja (FCT) 
Employment Type: Full-time, Onsite

About this Role

  • In line with its mission, Intersex Nigeria is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Finance Officer to contribute to their finance and accounting department.
  • The Finance Officer will be responsible for all financial responsibilities of Intersex Nigeria (Center for Healthcare Development and Youth Empowerment).
  • They will assist in the management of accounting systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), donor rules and regulations, and legal requirements. The role will be critical in supporting high-quality programs that will assist the intersex community and other marginalized and vulnerable groups.
  • The finance officer will also work closely with the finance team to coordinate day-to-day financial processes. This may involve tasks such as preparing financial reports, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling accounts, and ensuring that financial records are accurate and up to date.
  • Other potential responsibilities may include overseeing budgeting and forecasting activities, assisting with audits and tax filings, and identifying opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve financial performance.
  • Overall, this position will play a key role in ensuring the financial stability and success of the organization by implementing effective financial management practices and ensuring donor compliance, regulations and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day financial expenses of the organization.
  • Process all petty cash reconciliations regularly.
  • Contributes to maintaining quality financial systems and processes within the organization.
  • Prepare financial reports and documents in accordance with donor guidelines and requirements.
  • Ensures that accurate records are kept with standard practices.
  • Monitors and reports to the Finance Manager on administrative works.
  • Work closely with the programs department in preparing budgets for programs and proposals.
  • Develops and maintains a proper documentation and filing system in accordance with approved financial procedures.
  • Other duties assigned by Intersex Nigeria.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc Degree in Accounting or Banking and Finance.
  • Professional qualifications are considered a plus.
  • At least 2 years post NYSC NGO experience as a finance officer or experience in financial accounting
  • Flexibility and multitasking skills to work.
  • Good computer skills (PowerPoint, MS word, Excel)
  • Understanding of human rights principles including knowledge about SOGIESC
  • Personal qualities of humility, capacity for self-reflection, and a sense of humor are a plus.
  • Availability to travel within and outside Nigeria.
  • Familiarity and experience in the use of QuickBooks accounting software.
  • Good communication skills in written and verbal English
  • Positive attitude to working in a multi-ethnic/social environment.

Duration, Location and Remuneration

  • This is a full-time, onsite position based in Abuja, Nigeria. The initial contract will be for a period of One year, with the possibility of extension based on performance.
  • The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate, salary will be 250,000.00 (Two Hundred and fifty Thousand Naira) Naira.
