Action Against Hunger works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. We are recruiting to fill the position below:     Job Title: Area Manager Locations: Bade - Yobe and Damasak - Borno Job Type: Full Time Starting Date: based on funding approval Direct Line Manager: Senior Project Manager-SDC/GAC Objective 1

  • Monitor the Quality and Timely Implementation of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) project in Borno State.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Identify and monitor risks, constraints or escalating issues and inform senior management and coordination teams accordingly;
  • Identify and assign additional activities as required in coordination with the technical departments;
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the activities and their quality in compliance with proposals and in liaison with M&E department.
  • Management of the entire project(s) cycle;
  • Oversee the update and implementation of the Projects Detailed Implementation Plans (DIP);
  • Develop detailed monthly/weekly implementation plans for your staff in order to achieve the activities in the PIP;
  • Finalize and manage the Projects Scope Documents (PSDs) such as Project Procurement plan, Monitoring and evaluation plan, Work Breakdown Structure, etc. as well as ensuring regular update of these documents in order to maintain a strong record of the project(s);
  • Completion of contractual activities, within budgets and with acceptable quality;
  • Ensure that the project(s) is being implemented as per donor regulations;
  • Stay abreast of, and manage field operations as to, the prevailing security, cultural and social situation as per the guidance of the field coordinator;
Objective 2
  • Manage and Develop the Project Team
Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Provision of up dated records and reviews for team personnel reviews and records;
  • Manage conflict resolution and motivation exercises with the project(s) team in a proactive manner;
  • Track and manage team attendance;
  • Motivate, coordinate and supervise teams, providing continuous organizational support to staff and conducting regular field visits.
  • Participate in conducting full induction of project staff and are briefed on all relevant components of the project(s);
  • Identify need based trainings and work with HR team to develop, plan and implement relevant training plans for each team member;
  • Define objectives, update staff job descriptions and facilitate regular performance appraisals with support of the HR team;
Objective 3
  • Maintain Comprehensive Records and Report in a Timely Manner
Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Develop a data collection and entry plan complete with tools and timeline that is integrated into the PSDs and PIPs (if not already included) in line with the Mission M&E structure and strategy;
  • Prepare and share weekly, monthly and quarterly internal and external reports as requested;
  • Track the progress of activities and outcomes as well as ensuring the tracking of relevant indicators;
  • Completion of quality MEAL reports;
  • Participate in the bi-weekly coordination meetings, or other adhoc internal meetings as requested.
Objective 4
  • Assist in Wider Organizational Development through Learning
Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Develop systematic mechanism for lesson learned about the programs to provide information to conduct advocacy activities, with periodic field visits to other project(s)s to strengthen across mission information and best practice sharing; and encourage the development of innovative approach
  • Produce regular success stories on project implementation;
  • Highlight areas of improvement within the DIPs and PSDs;
  • Support wider learning by leading on project(s) based learning and research.
Internal & External Relationship Internal:
  • Senior Project Manager : hierarchical relationship (managed by) – technical support – exchange of information;
  • Field Coordinator : hierarchical relationship (day to day) – operational support – exchange of information;
  • Project(s) Sector Team: hierarchical relationship (managing).
External:
  •  Local governmental, and non-governmental partners : exchange of information, coordination, training, supervision, influence on choice of technical options
  • Local representatives of international aid organizations : exchange of information
Reporting Responsibilities
  • Monthly Activity Progress Report (including monthly update of Project(s)’s work-plan, Risks Register and Quality Checklists); Interim donor reports, Final Donor Reports; M&E Plans;
  • Budget Follow-Up and DIP monthly update;
  • Donor reports as required by Contract and signed agreements;
  • Success stories, documentaries, Most Significant Change Stories, Impacts writings, Brochures, Bulletins.
Position Requirements Qualifications:
  • A Master's Degree in Project Management, Social Sciences, Food Security, Agriculture or Development Studies. A Bachelor’s Degree in the above stated fields with additional Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning, Management or M&E.
Skills & Experience Essential:
  • Excellent written and spoken English and good report writing skills;
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications;
  • Problem management capacity;
  • Planning and analysis capacity;
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • At lease 5 years proven multi-sectoral project cycle management experience at a senior level for at least 3 years in an INGO;
  • Excellent management, organizational, motivational and leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and preparation of budgets for programming;
  • Familiarity with SDC and GAC project reporting and regulations and requirements;
  • Experience in managing medium to large-sized teams;
Preferred:
  • Strong experience in multi sector emergency responses and sector coordination;
  • Good knowledge of the humanitarian architecture and transformative agenda;
  • Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and donor reporting;
  • Good attention to detail;
  • Disciplined and able to work and arrive at decisions autonomously and with minimal guidance.
