Accountant Secretary at The Centre for International Cooperation in Health and Development (CCISD)
The Centre for International Cooperation in Health and Development (CCISD), a Canadian NGO based in Quebec City, has been developing and managing international health projects since 1987. The CCISD has recently initiated its field activities as part of the “Regional Disease Surveillance Systems Enhancement Project in West Africa” (REDISSE). The Objective of the REDISSE Project is to “strengthen national and regional cross-sectoral capacity for collaborative disease surveillance and epidemic preparedness in West Africa by remedying the weaknesses of human and animal health systems that hinder effective disease surveillance and response "; and in the event of an emergency, “ provide an immediate and effective response to said emergency”.
Funded by the World Bank (WB), managed by the West African Health Organization (WAHO), the CCISD has been selected to conduct the establishment of 53 new Centres for Epidemiological Surveillance (CES) in five (05) West African countries including NIGERIA."
As such, CCISD is searching for a motivated, qualified and competent Accountant secretary who is excellent in multitasking with excellent communication and organization skills to join our Nigeria local staff team based in Abuja in the position below:
Job Title: Accountant Secretary
Location: Abuja

Major Duties and Responsibilities
The position will be based in Abuja. Under the authority and supervision of the Manager in charge of the REDISSE-53 CES in Abuja, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
- Checking all financial transactions for accuracy
- Processing transactions, issuing checks, updating field activities budget, etc.
- Preparing employee and consultants expenses reports and making reimbursements
- Producing and checking monthly financial field reports,
- Preparing employee pays slip and proceeding salaries payment in compliance with tax and social security laws et regulations,
- Participating in preparing budgets and managing available budgets with efficiency and honesty.
- Ensuring accurate control of local expenses.
- Ensuring that CCISD standards for purchases or procurement of goods and services are strictly abided by before making any payment.
- Monitoring and lists of project materials and equipment.
- Operating bank accounts and managing petty cash transactions
- Reconciling finance accounts and direct debits.
- Ensuring proper administrative and financial project management in compliance with the CCISD’s Field Operations Administrative Guide.
CCISD-REDISSE-53 CES 2:
- Ensuring that project materials and equipment are properly maintained and keeping update inventory
- Supporting the Manager in charge of the REDISSE-53 CES in administrative and human resources management
- Performing basic office tasks, such as filing, data entry, answering phones, processing the mail, etc.
- Convening and servicing project meetings (producing agendas, taking minutes; conveying decisions, etc).
- Being aware of the Nigerian Employment and Labour Law and strictly abides by it.
- All other related tasks
Educational Qualification and Other Related Skills Required
- Candidates must have a minimum of B.Sc Degree in Accounting, finance or any other related course
- CPA (II), ACCA (II), ICAN or equivalent will be an added advantage.
- Ability to perform under pressure
- Computer knowledge and accounting software like Excel is mandatory
- Proficiency in English
- Knowledge of French would be an added advantage
- Willingness to work overtime
- Be highly motivated, have innovative ideas and a creative mind.
Skills and Competencies:
- The candidate should be a person of integrity with excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and organisational skills. He/she MUST be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Work Experience Required:
- Candidates must have a minimum of five years working experience, with preferably at least two years with an international organization
- Previous working experience with donor-funded projects will be an added advantage.
Tenure of Appointment and Additional Information
- The appointment will be for 12 months including a 3-month probationary period. Contract extension will be subject to performance and availability of funding.
- Following hire, the incumbent must be available to receive a training on CCISD Management procedures.
- Note that the start date of the contract will be determined according to the current context due to the spread of the Covid-19.
