A job offer letter or employment letter is a formal document, written and sent by an employer to a candidate selected for employment. A job offer letter is used to formally offer a position to a candidate, and provide important information including start date, compensation, work hours, and job title.
Offer letters are typically sent after an interview or series of interviews with a candidate who is approved by the hiring manager — but before a background check, medical/drug test, or other hiring contingencies have been met.
When given an offer letter for a job, the candidate may choose to accept the job offer and then will sign and return the letter as a formal acceptance of the job. If the offered remuneration doesn't meet the candidate's expectation, he or she may decide to make a counter offer or decline the offer.
