Senior Accountant in an Indigenous Shipping and Oil Based Services Company


A leading indigenous company in Shipping and Oil Based Services sector has vacancy for the position below:

 

 

Job Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Nigeria

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee ongoing financial operations, such as payroll, billing, cash flow, etc.
  • Prepare annual statutory accounts and managing annual audits and reconcile financial discrepancies
  • Manage month-end processes, prepare and present monthly management accounts, including bank reconciliation process
  • Oversee employees within the Accounts department
  • Liaise with external auditors to ensure statutory audits are undertaken efficiently
  • Develop external relationships with appropriate contacts, e.g., auditors, solicitors, bankers and statutory organizations such as the Inland Revenue
  • Provide insightful information (e.g., tax planning advise) to Financial Controller to aid long-term and short-term decision- making
  • Keep upto date with technological advances and accounting software
  • Provide support to Financial Controller by maintaining accounting controls, designing and implementing policies and procedures
  • Prepare budgets and monitor expenditures
  • Ensure adequate and timely deduction and remittance of taxes (VAT, WHT, etc.)
  • Maintain and update fixed asset records
  • Manage cash flow and bank balances, monthly budgets and produce accurate and timely retirement report thereon

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Must possess a recognized accounting qualification (ICAN preferably or ACCA)
  • Must possess strong IT skills
  • Advanced communication [and reporting] and leadership skills
  • Minimum of 5 years in accounting role, plus minimum of5 years in senior audit role.
  • Must be highly analytical with a high mathematical aptitude
  • Must demonstrate high financial reporting and analysis skills, and expert knowledge of IFRS
