Job Title: Quality Control Manager

Location: Demsa Local Government, Adamawa
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Quality Control Manager will be responsible for ensuring that rice production and other related activities aligns with defined quality standard and operating procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive quality control and quality management system that ensures both people and products meet and exceeds quality, safety and efficiency standards.
  • Develop required standard operating procedures, quality controls points and other documentations.
  • Drive the standardization of quality and process improvement initiative across the rice plant and ensure adherence to all defined quality policies and Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Liaise with the paddy procurement officer to establish quality requirements and ensure adherence from external vendors and suppliers.
  • Liaise with all operating and processing staff to collate information for the development of quality procedures for their operations.
  • Drive efficiency and waste reduction across all operations.
  • Approve in-process production by confirming required specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, and communicating the required adjustments to the production team.
  • Approve all finished products by confirming specifications and conducting required quality tests.
  • Perform routine checks on all outgoing products to ensure zero defects and verify that the finished product is bagged and processed according to specifications and quality guidelines.
  • Maintain records of defective materials and ensure that defective parts are repaired, retested, or pulled away from the processing/production plant.
  • Support in reviewing all operations at the processing plant and ensure they are in accordance with international best practices.
  • Ensure that all established quality procedure, standards and specifications are presented in clear and descriptive formats for easy comprehension.
  • Support in setting-up and maintaining the controls and documentation procedures.
  • Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports.
  • Make sure that the processing and production of rice meet international and national standards.
  • Monitor the performance of the Quality Management System and support in providing recommendations to the quality control manager on observed quality issues.
  • Constantly check that the assembly or production team adheres to standards and procedures and complying with SLAs and legal requirements.
  • Produce data and report on adherence to quality standards across all operations.
  • Support with providing trainings and techniques to enable other members of the team achieve the desired quality standards.
  • Perform other functions as required.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of B.Sc. / HND in Chemistry or a relevant field.
  • 7 - 8 years’ experience with at least 3 years as a Quality Control Manager within the manufacturing or food industry; preferably rice milling.
  • Experience in large scale rice production or similar industries will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in project and operations management.
  • Knowledge of rice parboiling and milling machine.
  • Basic understanding of technical trouble shooting of Industrial machine.
  • Quality assurance process design for startup operations.
  • Ability to execute and plan quality projects.
  • Ability to drive value chain initiatives.
  • Excellent organization and management skills.
  • Delivery on work targets; quality and timeliness of delivery.
  • Demonstration of trustworthiness: integrity, and excellence.
  • Strong interpersonal relationships; customer-centric attitude.
  • Ability to speak the Hausa Language is an added advantage.
  • Good report writing and documentation skills.
  • Understanding ISO Quality Management Systems.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
  • High sense of responsibility, accountability and dependability.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.
