Position Description
- The Chief Officer is the head of the deck department and is as such responsible to supervise and encourage all subordinates. The Chief Officer is the personal deputy for the Master.
- Should the Master of any reason be unfit to continue his duties, the Chief Officer is to take over responsibility for the vessel.
Job Responsibilities
- The Chief Officer is the vessel’s dedicated Safety Officer and is responsible for all life-saving and fire fighting equipment as well as safety training.
- In case the Medic shall be absent the Chief Officer will act as Medic ü Responsible to the Master for implementation and verification of the SMS.
- Responsible for the promotion of SHE activities i.e. safe-working practices, training and monitoring within the departments.

- The Chief Officer will maintain the Medical Log and show all medicines dispensed by him, including the diagnosis of the complaint. He will on a regular basis monitor the health hazards facing the ship’s crew and also record any new hazard which may manifest itself and
- He is required to make pre-sailing reports to the Master concerning the status of equipment and the watertight integrity of the vessel and also on the personnel under his supervision.
- The Chief Officer is also the ‘Designated Safety Officer’ on board each ship and is responsible for the maintenance of safety equipment and records.
- In the event of the Master being unable to fulfill his duties because of illness or for any other reason, where his judgement is impaired and his actions are deemed prejudicial to the safety of the crew and vessel, the Chief Officer will

Position Description
- The recent acquisition of two marine assets, FSV Agilis and Ocean Patriot, requires Dangote Industries Limited to organize a Marine Department for the Safe and Efficient management of the new vessels.
- A Marine Assets Manager (MAM) has already been employed who requires the assistance of a Marine ISM and HSE Engineer (MIHE) to work with the MAM to deliver the expected Vessels’ Performance in a safe, timely and systematic manner.
- The MIHE will work with the MAM on the applications for NIMASA flag registration of the new and future vessels and the daily operation of the vessels;
Job Responsibilities
To this effect we have found a suitable candidate who has the relevant marine experience and his job description is as follows:
- The MIHE will assist the MAM on the preparation, revision, implementation and follow up compliance of the ISM code on board all units owned and chartered by Dangote Industries Limited.
- The MIHE will on daily basis follow up the implementation, compliance and enforcement of HSE policies on board company’s owned and chartered vessels as well as on the shore based marine related operations as well as liaison with our marine associates where and when our operations interact with these associates like in the case of INTELS jetty operations, NIMASA and Port State Control (PSC), Class Inspections and others, also pre purchase and pre Hire inspections in combination with the MAM.
- The MIHE will assist the MAM on manning issues as screening and interviewing candidates or different positions on board DIL’s marine assets by assessing and evaluating their safety culture prior joining or being hired and conducting safety inductions as necessary.
- The MIHE will maintain a register of all WAEP, DIL AND Contractor training requirements and identifying training needs and recommendation on all areas of our Marine Department and oilfield assets in conjunction with other company’s safety personnel that could be already on the field.
- The MIHE will conduct audits as and when required; this will include VAIR inspections of all DIL and Contractor vessels.
- Develop Marine asset procedures and update as required by Marine Safety Management.
- Conduct undesired event investigation, Root cause analysis and recommendations to close out.
- The MIHE will assist the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) on preparation, compliance and monitoring of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS); Set up and monitor vendors evaluation and qualification system for the marine department and marine assets.

- Hold a Bachelor's degree in a Safety or Technical Engineering field of study, as well as several years of experience managing and working in the field of health and safety.

Position Description
- Responsibility and Authority - Have a total responsibility for the catering department, motivate and follow up fellow workers and care for the welfare of all onboard.
Job Responsibilities
- Watch Routines: Is responsible to prepare watch routines for the catering crew.
- Overtime: Is responsible for keeping the overtime lists for the catering department and for ensuring that the list is handed to the Master.
- Report : to prepare a handover report for next shift and send a copy to the Master.
- Custom clearance: The Camp Boss is responsible to prepare and hand to the Master a report of all supplies he is responsible for in due time for custom clearances.
- Log keeping: to keep the diary for catering and to have it counter-signed by the Master at regular intervals.
Cooking:
- Supervision have the daily supervision of all preparing of food, including the serving and presentation of food in the messroom and the baking of bread.
- Menu planning: to prepare the menu plan for each voyage with special view of the variety of food, food value and cost and to present the menu to the Master for approval.
- It is the Camp Boss responsibility to inquire if any crewmember has special food requirements.
- Cooking: to participate in the preparing of meals according to watch duties or if required.
Housekeeping:
- Cleaning: the Camp Boss is responsible for the hygiene on board and in particular the galley area. Further to, in co-operation with the Chief Officer, prepare a cleaning plan including all areas onboard for daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and to have it approved by the Master.
- Laundry: to prepare routines for changing, cleaning and caring of linen and to have the routines approved by the Master. At regular intervals check linen for tear and wear and order replacements if required.
- Inspections: on behalf of the Master carry out unexpected inspections of cleaning in cabins that are kept by the occupants.

Position Description
- The Chief Engineer of Company managed vessels are responsible for the following actions with respect to the requirements of the ISM Code, Company Objectives and Policy
Job Responsibilities
- Chief engineer shall ensure that all the ship's machinery and equipment are working in an efficient manner in order to support safe navigation of the ship.
- He should carry out all his duties while complying with the rules and regulations laid down by the flag state administration, IMO, and port state authorities.
- Frequent inspections of equipment dealing with ship and personal safety must be carried out by him at regular intervals of time.
- All items used for pollution prevention should be frequently checked and tried out for proper operating condition
- Chief engineer should lay down a set of standing orders for each crew member under his command.
- The standing orders should be given in accordance with the routine maintenance schedule as laid down by the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), which is prescribed by the manufactures
- He should see that details of every operation and activity should be properly maintained in log and record books, which state the compliance of the system.
- Life-saving and fire preventing equipment should be checked a regular basis for their operating condition. (Operating mechanism and linkages should be inspected and lubricated frequently).
- In order to minimize sources of fire, chief engineer must ensure that proper operation and maintenance of fuel and lubricating oil and purifying equipment is carried out to minimize leakage. In case there are leakages, they should be rectified at the earliest.
- He should also make sure that the amount of waste oil that is collected should be as less as possible. The collected oil should be burnt in an incinerator or given to shore-based collecting facilities.
- Chief engineer should ensure that the maintenance of incinerator is carried out as per the rules and regulations laid down by the management.
- It is imperative of him to check that from the effluent mixture, only clean water is pumped out of the ship only through an oily water separator.

- The Second Engineer is responsible for supervision of the staff within his area of responsibility and has to ensure that assigned maintenance activities are properly and safely carried out as instructed by the Chief Engineer.
