Medical Laboratory Technician at the Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMOH)


The Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMOH) remains the only state to receive direct funding from the Global Fund since 2017 and is currently a Principal Recipient for the implementation of the Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) grant during the 2024 – 2026 implementation period. As the Principal Recipient, the Ministry of Health is legally responsible for managing the grant and ensuring the achievement of the programmatic results and accountability of the grant's resources. To fulfil the mandate of the Principal Recipient, the Ministry of Health established the Global Fund Grant Management Unit (GMU) to carry out the functions of the PR. The Grant Management Unit works with the implementing units within the LSMOH, and other implementing partners in executing its mandate and ensuring that the grant is managed and implemented in compliance with the grant agreement signed between the Global Fund and the Principal Recipient.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:



Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Department: Permanent Secretary Office
Section: Grant Management Unit/LASUTH PCR LAB
Reporting to: Grant Management Unit/Technical Expert (Laboratory Services)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand and implement operation policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Collect blood samples for CD4, Hematology, Chemistry, Viral load and Dried Blood spot (DBS) samples for Early Infant Diagnosis (EID).
  • Work with PCR Lab Focal Person in preparing a routine program performance and progress charts for the PCR Lab.
  • Assist Scientists on their day to day activities.
  • Ensure prompt response to Client and Client’s rights are well protected.
  • To make necessary correction(s) as need be.
  • Attend monthly coordination meetings of PCR Lab Team.
  • Separate the blood samples collected for analysis purposes.
  • Ensuring that separated sample are well kept before and after analysis before final deposition.
  • Ensuring that collected samples are well registered, recorded, properly authenticated and finally documented.
  • Perform other duties as may be required within technical competence.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A certificate of Medical Laboratory Technician or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Laboratory services.
  • Experience working with Global Fund grants is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with the Nigerian public health sector is highly desirable.
