Food Safety and Standardization Expert at the Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG) Associated


The Nigeria Agribusiness Group (NABG) is an umbrella association for all corporations in the Agribusiness sector in Nigeria; it administers private sector participation through advocacy and advise the Governments on policy direction. The NABG council comprises leaders of these associations and corporates who are major players in the agribusiness value chains.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 


Job Title: Food Safety and Standardization Expert

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with key stakeholders to develop a strategy and work plan for the Agricultural Commodity Standards and Rating initiative.
  • Deliver on a range of activities to get formal approval and gazetting of extant industry standards and ratings.
  • Develop frameworks to assist partners in utilizing standards to effectively drive commodity markets, especially in assisting to make them reach exportable grades.
  • Identify and engage stakeholders like the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and development organizations to drive commodity standards development.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
The Applicants are required to have the followings:

  • An advanced degree (MSc. or M.Eng. in relevant subjects such as Analytical Chemistry, Agricultural Sciences, food science and technology and Quality Infrastructure related Higher Degrees.
  • Must have the training and working experience with the following ISO standards: ISO 22000 Food Safety Management systems, ISO 9001- Quality Management System, ISO/IEC 17025 - competency requirements for testing, sampling, and calibration laboratories, and Global Good Agricultural Standards Global GAP.
  • Work Experience in food, pesticide, research, and toxicology laboratories will be of great advantage.
  • With 15-20 relevant years of experience in these are either in the corporate or public sector.
  • MUST be willing to travel 40% of the project time both locally and outside the country.
  • Must be conversant with barcoding systems for Traceability of products, and Management Systems Audits.
  • The applicant is required to have working experience on issues related to Sanitary and Phytosanitary Requirements for Agricultural produce.

Other Soft and Hard Skills Required:

  • Ability to work with or monitor a Quality management system, QMS.
  • Must have high organizational and leadership skills to manage Quality programs that support a bigger commercial enterprise.
  • The right applicant is expected to know the workings of conformity and regulatory bodies (NAFDAC, SON, NAQS, NINAS, and NEPC) activities including but not limited to testing, Inspection, and product certification.
  • Must be highly computer savvy and can maintain effective project and training scheme management virtually.
  • Be able and willing to design, coordinate and sometimes deliver training content to stakeholders in specialized topic areas.
