Job Title: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Lagos

Job Summary & Purpose

  • The CFO has primary responsibility for the planning, staffing, implementation, and management of all the financial activities of the company.
  • This includes the business planning, budgeting, accounting, treasury, and financing areas of our businesses.
  • As a start-up, this role requires an ability to clearly establish priorities, be an effective member of the leadership team, and have a solution-oriented, hands-on approach towards any given task.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direction and management of the finance and accounting functions for the UK holding company, along with our Nigeria and other West African subsidiaries (through own staff and/or contracted services).
  • Refining and controlling the financial planning, budgeting, performance reporting, and accounting activities of the company.
  • Providing strategic and operational guidance and recommendations to the CEO and members of the leadership team.
  • Facilitating relationships with the company’s banks, investors, and business partners to achieve Company’s general objectives while ensuring compliance to all relevant legal and KYC regulations.
  • Overseeing all formal Finance, Accounting, HR, and IT related policies and procedures.
  • Efficiently managing the treasury function of the company, including working capital, liquidity, collections and payments, and foreign exchange.
  • Assisting in raising and deploying a Series A capital raise, including oversight of data room and investor relations initiatives.

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s or Higher Educational Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7 to 10+ years of relevant work experience, including several years direct responsibility for the accounting function of a company.
  • Familiarity with structuring capital raising agreements with international investors.
  • Chartered Accountant or CPA qualification.
  • International experience working in virtual teams and variety of jurisdictions.
  • Good standing with relevant professional and regulatory organizations.
  • English proficiency, with fluency in additional languages (esp. French) an advantage.
  • Ability to reside and work in Lagos, Nigeria (with interest in possibile relocation to UK at a later date.
  • Prior experience in working with start-ups or new business initiatives in a larger organization, esp. involving mobile apps, identity verification, or digital payments.
  • Familiarity with multi-currency, cloud-based accounting software.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory compliance requirements for financial transactions and mobile/digital services
