Job Title: Management and General Ledger Accountant

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • In this role, you will demonstrate your accounting expertise in a variety of project and corporate accounting practices, including overseeing account payables, account receivables, inventory and fixed assets.
  • You will ensure the Company’s management accounting procedures and system are adhered to, ensuring financial stability, accuracy and completeness.
  • You will promote effective supervisory function over your team to ensure compliance with accounting regulations, procedures, processes, etc. for the reliability and integrity of revenues and the cost of sales.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Prepare corporate financial analysis and project reports and statements for review by the Head of Finance.
  • Perform month-end accounting activities such as ledger reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Collect and analyze data about the company's operational costs.
  • Assist in budget preparation and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop cost-saving strategies.
  • Monitor expenditures, analyze revenues and determine budget variances and report the same for review by the Head of Finance.
  • Prepare lead schedules for all control accounts and project accounts including prepayment and accruals ledgers, loan schedules, and other month-end accounting activities and general ledgers reconciliation in accordance with agreed delivery timelines for month-end reports
  • Supervise the bank reconciliation process
  • Communicate with all departments to ensure invoices are approved and signed off before payment is completed.
  • Review and recommend changes to existing accounting procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with key accounts and financial functions in line with internal period-end closure checklists, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Analyze past results and trends by performing variance analysis, both horizontal and vertical, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Design and implement a fixed assets tracking system for optimized PPE control procedures.
  • Supervise the entries into the computerized accounting system and ensure data entry is on a real-time basis

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum of an HND / University Degree and relevant certification(s).
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA is a must. A master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Consistent, accurate, and thorough with an eye for details
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Perform highly detailed work with accuracy and precision.
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and V-lookup
  • Six or more years of related experience
  • In-depth understanding of oil and gas sector regulatory policies
