University of Lagos - Founded in 1962, the University of Lagos has, for over 5 decades, provided qualitative and research-oriented education to Nigerians and all those who have entered its domain in search of knowledge. At its inception, the University of Lagos was empowered to produce a professional workforce that would steer the political, social and economic development of a newly independent country. 

The University began with three faculties: Commerce and Business Administration, Law and Medicine.  The faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering and Science were added in 1964.

The University currently has a School of Postgraduate Studies, a Distance Learning Institute (DLI) and twelve faculties.

  • A candidate for this post should normally possess a good first degree and a doctorate degree in the respective field from a recognized University with at least five (5) years of teaching and research experience since becoming a Lecturer II in a University or comparable institution of higher learning.
  • Candidate must possess evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals and ability to supervise post-graduate students including doctorate students in areas of expertise.
  • Candidate must have been a Lecturer I for a minimum of three years.
Areas of Specialisation for Theatre Arts:
  • Arts of the Theatre, Technical Theatre, Theatre Management and Administration, Media Arts, Dramatic Literature and Criticism, Dance and Choreography.
Areas of Specialisation for Visual Arts:
  • Art History, Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Textiles or Ceramics.
(ii) Lecturer I (Music)
  • A candidate for this post should normally possess a good first degree and a doctorate degree in the respective field from a recognized University with at least four (4) years of teaching and research experience since becoming a Lecturer II in a University or comparable institution of higher learning.
  • Candidate must also have ability to teach courses at the undergraduate level with evidence of practical skills and competence.

  • A strong proof of continuing research with appreciable evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals published both locally and internationally is required in addition to evidence of ability to supervise post-graduate students including doctorate students in areas of expertise.
  • A candidate must also have sufficient administrative experience and must have been an Associate Professor for a minimum of three years.
  • Candidates who have been Senior Lecturers for a minimum of six years may be considered for appointment.
  • S/he must also possess ability to develop English Language Studies as well as ability to develop good academic projects.
Areas of Specialisation for Language:
  • English Phonetics/Phonology, Nigerian English/Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, Syntax.

  • A strong proof of continuing research with appreciable evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals published both locally and internationally is required in addition to evidence of ability to supervise post-graduate students including doctorate students in areas of expertise.
  • Candidate must also have sufficient administrative experience and must have been a Senior Lecturer for a minimum of three years.

  • Stylistics, Discourse Analysis and Applied Linguistics
Areas of Specialisation for Literature:
  • Poetry, Gender Studies and Masculinities.
(iii) Lecturer II (English Language, English Literature)
  • Candidate for this post should normally possess a good first degree and doctorate degree in the respective field from a recognized University. Evidence of scholarly publications will be an added advantage.

(i) Professor (Russian Language/Literature)
  • A candidate for this post should normally possess a good first degree and a doctorate degree in Russian Language/Literature with not less than ten (10) years of teaching and research experience since becoming a Lecturer II in a University or comparable institution of higher learning.
  • A strong proof of continuing research with appreciable evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals published both locally and internationally is required in addition to evidence of ability to supervise post-graduate students including doctorate students in areas of expertise.
  • A candidate must also have sufficient administrative experience and must have been an Associate Professor for a minimum of three years.
  • He/She must have ability to provide academic leadership.
  • Candidates who have been Senior Lecturers for a minimum of six years may be considered for appointment.

  • Russian Phonetics/Phonology, Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, Russian/African Poetry, Literary Theory and Dramatic Literature in Russian, Novel. 
(ii) Professor (French Literature)

(ii) Senior Lecturer (Language/Linguistics, Literature (Yoruba), Literature (Igbo)
  • A candidate for this post should normally possess a good first degree and Ph.D. degree in the respective field from a recognized University, with at least five (5) years of teaching and research experience since becoming a Lecturer II in a University or comparable institution of higher learning.
  • Candidate must possess evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals and ability to supervise post-graduate students including doctorate 13 students in areas of expertise.
  • Candidate must have been a Lecturer I for a minimum of three years.
Areas of Specialisation:

  • A candidate for this post must normally possess a good first degree and a doctorate degree in Linguistics/Yoruba Language or Linguistics/Igbo-language from a recognized University, with at least four (4) years of teaching and research experience since  becoming a Lecturer II in a University or comparable institution of higher learning.
  • Candidate must also have the ability to teach courses at the undergraduate level with evidence of practical skills and competence. Evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals is also required in addition to ability to supervise post-graduate students in areas of expertise.
  • Candidate must have been a Lecturer II for a minimum of three years.

  • Professor - CONUASS 7 (N2,485,099.00 - N3,209,140.00) per annum

  • Senior Lecturer - CONUASS 5 (N1,653,415.00 - N2,348,299.00) per annum
