University Librarian Vacancy at the Delta State University
The Delta State University was established on 30th April, 1992 to
encourage the advancement of learning throughout the State and Nigeria
at large and to hold out to all persons, without distinction of race,
creed or sex the opportunity of acquiring a liberal education.
The Governing Council of Delta State University hereby announces that
the position of the University Librarian is vacant.In accordance with
the Edict establishing the Delta State University, Council wishes to
commence the process for appointment of a substantive University
Librarian.
Consequently, applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified
persons with requisite qualifications and cognate experience for
consideration for the position below:
Job Title: University Librarian
Location: Delta
The Person
- Candidate for the position should be visionary, have the ability
to provide good leadership and command respect and loyalty of staff of
the University.
- He must also possess personal integrity and demonstrate transparency in private and public life.
Duties
- The University Librarian is the Head and Officer in charge of
the University Library, and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor
for the administration of the University Library and co-ordination of
all Library services in the University and its Campuses, Colleges,
Faculties, Departments, Institutes and other teaching or research units.
Qualification and Experience
Candidates for the post of the University Librarian should:
- Possess a minimum of Doctoral Degree plus a Post Graduate
Diploma in Librarianship or a Doctoral Degree in Library Science from a
recognized University plus at least eighteen (18) years post
qualification experience, most of which (12 years) must be in a
University Library.
- Candidates below the rank of Deputy University Librarian and candidate(s) who had been interviewed previously need not apply: or
- Be a Professor of Library Science who must have worked in the Library in a tertiary institution.
Candidates are also required to have scholarly publications in reputable journals and must be members of the following:
- Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN).
- Nigeria Library Association (N LA).
Furthermore, the candidate must be computer literate and proficient in
relevant computer applications as applicable to the running of a complex
and modern University Library.
Age:
- The candidate must not be more than 60 years of age at the time of assumption of office.
Remuneration
Salary Scale (New Consolidated Salary Structure) CON UASS 7 Step 1.
Conditions of Service
The appointment shall be for a single tenure of Five (5) years on such
terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.
Other allowances and fringe benefits are as applicable in the Nigerian
University System.
