Transcribers at the West African Centre For Public Health and Development


The West African Centre For Public Health and Development (WACPHD-UOM-IGPH) is a non-governmental organization working on the improvement of health equity through sustained engagement with a core element approach that includes Research, Program delivery, Technical Assistance, and Education.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

 

Job Title: Transcriber

Locations: Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Lagos, Niger, Oyo, Rivers and Taraba (Two (2) Position Per State)
Duration of engagement: 2 Months maximum

Job Description

  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for listening to audio recordings and accurately transcribing the content into written form.
  • The transcriber should possess excellent listening skills, a strong command of the English language, and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • The Transcribers will report to the Senior Data Analyst.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Transcriber will serve in the following capacities:

  • Ability to listen and compile audio recordings during KII, IDI and FGDs sessions.
  • Communicating with the data collectors and supervisors when there are issues.
  • Submit completed drafts to supervisors and correct any errors from their feedback.
  • Ability to create verbatim and accurate written versions of recordings.
  • To review and edit transcriptions done by speech recognition software and identify any inconsistencies.
  • You must complete transcriptions in a timely manner and review drafts for any spelling, grammar, or formatting errors, as well as other inconsistencies.
  • Undertake any other study-related task as may be assigned by line managers.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must have at least B.Sc or its equivalent (HND, OND, etc) in relevant field.
  • A previous history of engaging in similar research is an advantage.
  • Fluency in understanding and speaking of local languages is also an advantage.
  • Must have 1-3 years working experience.
  • Must be familiar with NVivo software.
  • Able to use an android device proficiently.
  • Ability to adhere to research ethics is important.
