Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Job Summary

  • We are a Trading Organization seeking to hire a Senior Accountant at Mid - Management level.
  • The Senior Accountant will beresponsible for managing and overseeing the accounting functions related to trading activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and providing financial insights to support trading decisions. This role includes supervising junior accounting staff, conducting financial analysis, and supporting financial planning and decision-making processes specific to the trading environment.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements specific to trading activities.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support trading strategies and decisions.
  • Conduct variance analysis and report on financial performance against budget and forecast for trading operations.

General Ledger Management:

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts related to trading transactions.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial records and transactions pertaining to trading activities.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

Compliance and Audit:

  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations specific to the trading industry.
  • Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits, focusing on trading operations.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with trading regulations.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts related to trading activities.
  • Monitor budget performance and report on deviations specific to trading operations.
  • Support departmental managers in understanding and managing their budgets related to trading.

Supervision and Training:

  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior accounting staff involved in trading activities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback specific to trading operations.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment within the trading accounting team.

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare and review tax filings, including sales tax, income tax, and other statutory reports related to trading activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of all tax-related documents for trading operations.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations impacting trading.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes related to trading transactions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments related to trading.
  • Monitor ageing reports and manage collections efforts for trading receivables.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Financial Accuracy:

  • Accuracy and timeliness of financial statements related to trading activities.
  • Number of errors or adjustments identified in audits specific to trading operations.

Compliance:

  • Adherence to GAAP and other regulatory requirements for trading.
  • Successful completion of internal and external audits with minimal findings related to trading operations.

Efficiency:

  • Timeliness of month-end and year-end closing processes for trading.
  • Time taken to resolve accounting discrepancies and issues related to trading activities.

Team Development:

  • Performance and development of junior accounting staff involved in trading activities.
  • Employee engagement and satisfaction within the trading accounting team.

Tax Compliance:

  • Timeliness and accuracy of tax filings related to trading operations.
  • Number of penalties or issues arising from tax filings specific to trading activities

Budget and Forecast Management:

  • Accuracy of budget forecasts compared to actual performance in trading operations.
  • Number of budget variances identified and explained specifically to trading.

Accounts Payable and Receivable Management:

  • Days payable outstanding (DPO) and days sales outstanding (DSO) metrics related to trading transactions.
  • Ageing of accounts receivable and success in collections efforts specific to trading.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent certification preferred).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Accountant in a trading and e-commerce organization or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices specific to trading activities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems used in trading (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial analysis tools.

Working Conditions:

  • The role is typically office-based, but remote work options may be available.
  • Standard business hours apply, with some flexibility required for urgent issues or projects.

Salary
N500,000 Monthly.
