Job Title: Regional Coordinator for Implementation of the Road Map for Fertilizer and Soil Health in West Africa and the Sahel-Nigeria

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with involved stakeholders the development of a detailed work plan for roadmap implementation, aligned with ECOWAS and Soil Values priorities and timelines.
  • Brokering financial instruments to provide financial and other incentives for farmers to sustainably manage soil fertility.
  • Convening parties to collectively develop conducive policies on sustainable soil fertility management practices for stakeholders to co-opt.
  • Coordinate the implementation of roadmap activities across member states, ensuring alignment with national strategies.
  • Manage budgets allocated for roadmap activities and ensure efficient and transparent use of funds.
  • Develop strategic partnership and engagement mechanisms that include public and private sectors.
  • Work with the ECOWAS (ARAA) M&E specialist to develop a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track progress towards achieving the roadmap's goals and objectives.
  • Work with the ECOWAS (ARAA) Communication specialist to develop strategies to raise awareness and disseminate the roadmap and its action plan.
  • Coordinate and ensure regular progress reports.
  • Promote and facilitate collaboration and partnerships among ECOWAS member states, regional institutions, research bodies, private sector actors, and civil society organizations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to ECOWAS member states on developing and implementing national road maps and action plans for FSH with a particular focus on the Sahelian countries.

Reporting and Work Relationships:

  • The Regional Coordinator will report to IFDC Director of Enabling Impact Department and will maintain close communication with IFDC throughout the assignment.

Required Experience

  • Advanced Degree (Master or PhD) in agriculture, soil sciences, environmental science or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills with fluency in English and French (both written and spoken).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management within the agricultural sector and fertilizer sub sector, preferably in West Africa or the Sahel.
  • Profound understanding of fertilizer and soil health management challenges in the region.
