Recruitment for Field Workers at The Anti-Human Trafficking Community Awareness & Recovery (CAR) Project
The Salvation Army Nigeria is contracted to deliver the Community Awareness and Recovery program. The CAR program is based in 5 Operational locations (Lagos State, Oyo State, Edo State, River State and Akwa Ibom State). Our CAR project aims to prevent and reduce the impact of modern slavery and trafficking in Nigeria by achieving the following outcomes:
- Increased awareness of, and changed attitudes and behaviours towards modern slavery and trafficking within local communities
- Reduced re-trafficking of and increased quality of life for survivors of modern slavery
- Enhanced understanding of modern slavery in-country and best practice responses required to prevent this crime
Job Title: Community Awareness and Recovery (CAR) Field Worker
Location: Oron/Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria
Working Hours: Full Time (5 days a week)
Details: Up to 20 month contract
Key Responsibilities:
The CAR Project Field Worker is an essential position to delivering an effective and efficient program with lasting impact for both vulnerable communities and survivors of trafficking in Nigeria. In this role you will be responsible for delivering the community awareness and prevention program and the Survivor recovery program in one of the project operational locations.
The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in project management
- Experience in community development or social work
- Strong reporting and writing skills
- Understanding of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery
- Strong Organisational skills
- Strong Microsoft, email and excel skills
- Ability to work in a team and independently
- Networking skills
- Intermediate Finance and excel skills
- Intimate working knowledge of the Oron geographic and local governmental areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
General
- Keeping records and case-files
- Managing budgets for the programs
- Write Monthly Reports
- Responsible for 2 community based programs:
- Community Advocacy, Awareness & Attitude Change Program
- Community Survivor Recovery Program
- May be required to support Project Coordinator with Emergency/Short-term accommodation Program
Community Advocacy, Awareness & Attitude Change Program
- With Project Coordinator finalise the program including policy, procedures and forms
- Develop advocacy, awareness and attitude change planusing various project approved tools and strategies
- Design training on how to train others and keep others inspired and active (TOT training)
- Working with Salvation Army Corps Officers to:
- Invite volunteers to join and participate in program
- Collect and purchase tools to raise awareness
- Deliver training on trafficking and TOT to 3motivated volunteers
- Work with volunteers to deliver plan of changing the community through meetings, dialogue and tools
- Networking with community organisations, schools, police, local governments, etc.
Community Survivor Recovery Program
- With Project Coordinator finalise the program including policy, procedures and forms
- Complete initial assessments that assess needs and strengths of survivor in order to assess eligibility for program and create case plan
- Case management including
- Empowerment of the survivor to use their skills and resources
- Link the survivor in with other services in the community
- Counselling and emotional support
- Follow up on survivors post exit from the program
- Network and liaise with wide range of NGO’s, schools, private and government programs in community in order to make referrals
Person Specification:
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelors in social service, community development or related field
Desirable
- Practicing Christian or willing to work in sympathy with the Christian ethos of The Salvation Army
Knowledge
Essential
- An understanding of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery
- Knowledge of community development monitoring and evaluation tools
- Knowledge of participatory community work
Desirable
- Knowledge of trauma and working with people who have been abused or exploited
- Knowledge of human behaviour
Experience
- Experience in community development work or social work
- Experience networking with NGO’s, Government and private sector
- Proven experience of community mobilisation
- Experience writing reports and case notes
Experience in counselling
- Experience working as part of a large international NGO
- Experience in Train the Trainer work

Circumstances
