Nutrition Officer at Pro-Health International


Pro-Health International is a faith-based, non-profit organization that has provided free health care services to under-served populations in Nigeria for over 31years.CDC and USAID have funded PHI to implement HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care projects, OVC projects and Global Health security projects.

The ICHSSA-4 project is a 5-year USAID-funded award that commenced in December 2019 and will run up until December 2024. The project is being implemented by a consortium of partners, with Pro-Health International (PHI) as the lead partner and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) as the sub in Adamawa, Bauchi Taraba, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbistates. The ICHSSA 4 project aims to ensurethat Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) are cared for and protected by their households, communities, local and state governments to reduce their vulnerability to HIV

We are recruiting to fill the position below:



Job Title: Nutrition Officer

Location: Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary / Responsibilities

  • The Nutrition Officer will assist the Nutrition Advisor in capacity strengthening of CSOs to provide high-quality nutrition services for vulnerable households and populations.
  • Support CSOs to ensure that project activities and approaches used are in line with relevant ICHSSA4 project objective and government policies.
  • S/He will map project communities and facilities to determine common nutritional vulnerabilities for CLHIV and other priority groups for Nutritional interventions.
  • S/he will assist in the development of assessment tools, analysis of household vulnerability assessment results, and articulation of appropriate relevant interventions to address identified gaps
  • S/he will be responsible for writing reports of Nutrition Community of Practice meetings and trainings while providing logistical and programmatic support during such activities
  • S/He will keep track of all nutrition intervention needs along the 95-95-95 cascade and provide interventions in supporting the nutritional needs of the beneficiaries.
  • S/He will conduct a project-level rapid assessment and develop SOP, Nutrition pathways charts, and guidance documents with the guidance of the Nutrition Advisor
  • H/she document and disseminate project efforts, achievements, lessons learned, and innovations within PHI and to the larger Nigerian and global technical community, as appropriate.

External Responsibility:

  • The Nutrition Officer will support the CSO and community volunteers to provide nutrition services to the beneficiaries and report the same quarterly
  • The Nutrition Officer will ensure timely preparation of high-quality training and meeting reports
  • Conduct quarterly review of partners’ progress reports, tease out promising practices and identify nutrition accomplishments of research significance in furtherance of ICHSSA 4 learning agenda
  • S/he will maintain strong partnership with implementing CSOs, government and private sector players and other relevant stakeholders in manner that reflects professionalism, mutual respect in accordance with PHI value-based behavior
  • Support the Secretariat of Nutrition Community of Practice and convene meetings and follow up with CSOs, working groups or ad hoc committee to complete assigned tasks as appropriate

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences, Nutrition, and Dietetics,
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with reputable organizations on Infant and child nutrition and referral services
  • Must understand the principles of 95-95-95 towards zero HIV transmission and contribution of Community OVC programs to this goal.
  • Practical experience in IYCF and Food Demonstration.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel to rural communities in difficult terrains with challenging roads.
  • knowledge of current Nigeria’s HIV Response, HIV prevention, and treatment adherence principles, particularly for children
  • Knowledge of GON and PEPEAR current OVC guidelines and ability to address the guidelines using the project's strategy.
