Tetra Tech International Development Europe is Tetra Tech’s European business unit focused on International Development. We are based in London with offices in Kenya, Nigeria, Poland, and the Netherlands. We deliver international development programmes focused on economic growth, governance and justice/security, and infrastructure for clients such as the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the United Nations, the European Union, the European Investment Bank and other donors and funding agencies. We also have a strong in-house Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning Practice consisting of 35 evaluators, statisticians, economists, social scientists, and research managers.

Job Title: Maintenance Assistant

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

Project Overview

  • Tetra Tech International Development is delivering the FCDO-funded LINKS – Catalysing Economic Growth in Northern Nigeria programme and the United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (UKNIAF) programme.
  • LINKS supports the development of a vibrant and diversified economy in key northern Nigerian states. The programme began in September 2019 and has a duration of 7 years.
  • The front-line components of LINKS activity are on Investment promotion and facilitation and Green Growth, including climate-smart agriculture, with a strong cross-cutting focus on gender and social inclusion (GESI) and monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL).
  • Ultimately, LINKS focuses on increasing incomes and creating jobs for the poor in Northern Nigeria whilst ensuring sustained growth. LINKS works across high-potential pro-poor value chains, supporting them to become productive, competitive, and attractive for investment, and then encouraging actual investment into them.
  • UKNIAF is working with the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to improve the delivery and management of Nigeria’s infrastructure. It is a flexible, rapid response, demand-led technical assistance. Part of UKNIAF’s focus is on improving investments in and ultimately increasing access to new and improved socially inclusive, climate-compatible infrastructure. The programme focuses on three areas – Power, Roads and Infrastructure Finance – and ultimately contributes to job creation, poverty reduction and socio-economic growth.

Main Duties
Your duties will include the following:

  • Performs intermediate-level or semi-skilled electrical, plumbing, masonry, and carpentry work in the Abuja office and residences.
  • Upon review and approval of the DOM, source low-value parts and materials to meet the maintenance requirements of the office and residences.
  • Responsible for residence make-readies and carrying out office and residential preventive maintenance.
  • Keep hand tools, power tools, and supplies organized and clean.
  • Follow safety precautions and adhere to the schedule.
  • Independently performs routine and uncomplicated maintenance and repair. Installation work after the job layout, work sequence and material requirements have been determined by the Deputy Operations Manager (DOM).
  • Work with contractors on large-scale jobs, performing simpler operations or assisting highly skilled workers.
  • Perform any other duties that might arise within the project activities.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Secondary School. Polytechnic – Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
  • At least five (5) years of maintenance experience with a reputable company.

Aptitude and Skills:

  • Ability to carry out operational efficiency in maintaining the office and residences.
  • Able to perform all forms of routine maintenance and repairs on many different assets. Having broad technical knowledge will allow them to handle most of those tasks.
  • Ability to diagnose and carry out root cause analysis of maintenance and repair broken assets and carry out general maintenance.
  • Steady and precise hands.

  • Experience with the use of a variety of electrical, plumbing, masonry and carpentry hand and power tools.
  • Ability to carry out repairs and maintenance complying with industry electrical, plumbing, carpentry and masonry standards.
  • Ability to improvise the solution on the spot in a safe manner to get things going until the organization can apply a better solution.
  • Ability to lift heavy items and spend most of your shift on your legs. You may also spend prolonged periods in awkward positions while performing specific maintenance work.
  • Ability to work at a high level of standards providing excellent internal and external customer service.
