Purpose of Position

  • The Sustainable and Inclusive Digital Financial Services (SIDFS) initiative at the Lagos Business School (LBS) was launched in 2015 as a research and advocacy initiative dedicated to enhancing financial inclusion in Nigeria.
  • SIDFS is a platform that fosters knowledge creation and dissemination, stakeholder and capacity-building engagements for financial service providers (FSPs), regulators, and other industry actors, supporting financial inclusion initiatives in Nigeria. SIDFS seeks an innovative, energetic, and multifaceted FSP Advisor to help its strategic goal of advancing financial inclusion in Nigeria.
  • The ideal candidate(s) has experience advising financial services providers on product design, product channels and marketing, customer research, product launch, and roll-out implementation.
  • Experience in the financial inclusion space is a plus.
  • The candidate must be a strategic thinker who can see the big picture, assess operations, foresee bottlenecks, and guide the FSP teams in identifying ways to effectively adapt and implement a product design and engagement strategy for the low-income segment. Experience in strategy, product design, operational and implementation advisory, and organizational change management is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the SIDFS team to deliver content for the various operator and regulator capacity-building programmes
  • Lead working sessions with FSP team(s) to guide them toward conceptualizing, adapting, and implementing products
  • Provide expert advisory and technical expertise on product design, customer engagement, and product operations and implementation to guide the FSP team(s) in the process of implementing new solutions and rolling out new products
  • Develop and operationalize existing learning tools and resources for enhanced delivery and outcomes
  • Ensure FSP team(s) are progressing towards successful solution roll-out of new products
  • Track and assess the progress of FSP team(s) towards successful solution roll-out of new products
  • Synthesize FSP team(s) feedback and key learnings from the process to enhance program execution
  • Assess implementation challenges the FSP team(s) is experiencing and effectively guide them towards strategies to troubleshoot and move forward in the execution of the product development and roll-out goals
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the operational and customer context of the FSP(s) they are advising to guide solution execution, aid decision-making, and help the FSP team(s) trouble-shoot challenges

  • Prototypes (general & gender-based)
  • MVPs launched (general & gender-based)

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree, preferably a Master's Degree in Design, Business Management, Education, Behavioural Science, Psychology, Finance, Economics, Development Studies or related fields;
  • 5+ years of work experience in FinTech/digital financial services/e-commerce, banking or financial services, consulting (for financial services), preferably in product/strategy/user experience/business design and development for financial services
  • Ability and willingness to travel across Nigeria
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and presentation
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong ability to guide and influence teams
  • Working knowledge of MS Office tools, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with financial services providers in an advisory or consulting capacity in banking and payments, and preferably financial inclusion
  • Experience in strategy, product design, product operations, and implementation, and organizational change management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with low-income populations in emerging markets and experience with economic and empowerment issues
  • Experience in savings, credit, insurance, and digital financial services
  • Track record of superior creativity and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and successfully achieve objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with an aggressive timeline
