Job Description
- We are currently looking to fill the role of a Learning and Development Manager who will be responsible for promoting, developing and implementing Action Against Hunger Nigeria’s learning and development strategies and programs, assessing the mission-wide learning and development needs to develop an annual training plan to drive the training initiatives, and identifying and arranging suitable training solutions for all employees.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with the various internal stakeholder to coordinate the implementation of all mandatory trainings such as Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Basic Security Training, Action Against Hunger Induction training, Code of Conduct training, etc;
- Implement the various training resources available at Action Against Hunger - SpeC (Specialized course) training courses, Talent Bridge (ACF’s e-learning platform), security trainings, etc;
- In liaison with the Safety and Security Coordinator, coordinate the implementation of all security trainings, both internal and external, in the mission;
- Collect individual training needs identified during the annual appraisals;
- Consolidate the individual and collective needs and create an annual training plan for the mission;
- Create the budget for the training needs identified in the training plan;
- Liaise with the Country Director to approve and validate the training plan;
- Define whether the training can be done internally or externally: check which training interventions can be handled internally including at the headquarters level and identify external training providers relevant to ACF programs and strategy;
- Evaluate and assess the impact of training courses and programs;
- Establish the guidelines and templates for performance appraisal and train managers and employees on how to use them;
- Create an annual performance management calendar for the mission;
- Sensitize managers and employees on their roles and responsibilities in the performance management process;
- Ensure that all employees develop their Individual Action Plan at the beginning of the year/project that defines their performance and development objectives;
- Ensure that all new joiners and employees in new positions have a probationary action plan at the beginning of the contract and a probationary appraisal at the end of the period;
- Prepare an annual report on Performance Management capturing the feedback from both staff and managers and feeding into the staff learning and development;
- Initiate coaching and mentoring schemes at the mission level to enhance the learning and development of staff and foster a learning culture;
- Implement the various learning methods at Action Against Hunger (e.g. onsite trainings, online training courses, communities of practice, learning webinar series, coaching and mentoring schemes, job shadowing, secondment, group work, etc);
- Act as the focal point for coordinating workshops (both at the mission and HQ level) and training events;
- Establish professional relations with all departmental heads and managers to gain an understanding of their ways of working and ensure that their learning and development needs are met;
- Ensure that training documents are produced, maintained and available for the concerned departments and effectively used;
- Encourage employees to make the most of learning and development opportunities;
- Collect collective trainings needs that cut across several departments or within a single department through Heads of Department and managers;
- Support the HRHOD to analyze the annual appraisal results, consolidate, and arbitrate between the different requests (trainings, individual progression, professional development);
- Submit monthly and annual training reports to the HRHOD including the training evaluation and impact assessment;
- Develop and maintain a training database containing all training information conducted in the mission;
- Submit an annual report on performance management.
Position Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Psychology, Business Management, or a closely related field;
- 3 to 4 years experience in training, employee development, leadership and organization development;
- Good computer and database skills;
- Excellent communication, planning and negotiation skills;
- Trainer of trainers qualified;
- Proven work experience as a Training Manager is an added advantage;
- Track record in designing and executing successful training programs;
- Familiarity with traditional and modern learning methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in-classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations etc);
- Excellent communication and leadership skills;
- Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively;
- Ability to write reports and produce training manuals;
- Fluency in one or more national/regional languages is an asset.
