APM Terminals Apapa has been undergoing significant expansion and upgrades over the past years and more than 200 mill USD has been invested. A final phase of expansion has just been started which will make Apapa the largest and most modern terminal in West Africa with a capacity of 1.2 mill TEU.

Job Title: Managing Director

Location: Lagos

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility for safety in the terminal.
  • Fully responsible for overall performance of the Business Unit.
  • Deliver the 135 mill USD expansion project
  • Ensure achievement of productivity levels comparable with international operating standards.
  • Meeting contractual obligations under agreements entered into with shipping lines.
  • Ensures cost effective operation.
  • Focus on continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategy and define responsibilities.
  • Constant focus on improving deliverables for the business.
  • Deal with / manage partners and stakeholders - both internal and external.
  • Identify, train and develop talents and maintain a current succession plan.
Requirements
  • Requires at least 7 years of senior executive and managerial experience with own P&L responsibility.
  • Engaging leadership, effective interpersonal skills and excellent managerial skills including planning, organizing, and directing work.
  • A hands-on attitude and collaborative work style, fostering cooperation and teamwork internally as well as to government, Port authorities, external stakeholders and local communities.
  • Ideally have a track record in managing holistic port environments including but not limited to container handling, general cargo and bulk cargo functions.
  • Extensive and thorough knowledge of marine terminal operations, the shipping and logistics management industry.
  • A total minimum of 15 years proven track record, with knowledge of safety/operational/financial processes and project management in terminal operations, the shipping and logistics management industry.
  • Requires a Business University Degree. Advanced degree in management, such as an MBA, is desirable.
  • Must have effective negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Preferably experience in Africa and the ability to understand cultural differences.
  • Requires the ability to build good contacts within the shipping industry, the local communities, and the government and excellent stakeholder management skills.
