Job Title: Chief Operating Officer

Job Descriptions
- The Chief Operating Officer provides leadership and strategic direction for Operations, Technical, Security and IT functions.
- Ensure safe, efficient and productive service provision for both marine and landside customers. Provides input to effective strategies for operating the terminal at optimal levels. Also a key member of the terminal management team and has a direct influence on the growth and development of the terminal
- The role requires a strong commercial and operational focus individual to drive results and growth by building on the established customer service structure and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- The incumbent is expected to provide measurable input to the terminals business strategy within the limits of the role.
- The position will be responsible for setting and delivering the main operational initiatives which are within the strategy of the terminal.
- Establishes and implements current and long-range goals, objectives, plans and policies of port operations and expansions.
- The incumbent is expected to improve the quality of existing operational processes and methods on an ongoing basis.
- Provides the leadership and direction for the Port/Terminal operations and takes responsibility for effective management and safety of all operations staff.
- Leading role in selection, negotiation and finalization of agreements with suppliers & customers including execution and maintenance of SLA’s.
- Ensures operational processes comply with HSSE policies & procedures.
- Liaises with customs agents, trucking companies, customs, port authorities, etc. to ensure that their requirements are met.
- Responsible for setting and achieving the budget for the reporting functions.
- Ensures that the terminal adheres to APM Terminals Global standards on process and people development.
- Motivates, coaches and instructs all operational team members. Structures tasks and goals, establishes efficient courses of action, sets priorities, organises information, efficiently plans and executes daily tasks.
- Supports programs and initiatives that emphasise incremental improvement in work process and outputs over an open-ended period of time.
- Liaise with labor unions (where applicable) and on behalf of APMT take part in long-term contract negotiations with labor unions. Ensure industrial harmony with the workforce.
- Measure and report on operational performance and develop plans to improve relevant key performance indicators
We Are Looking For
- Completed post-graduate studies in Port and/or Terminal Management, or related Business studies is desirable.
- Minimum 7-year experience in operations management roles in terminals.
- Proven direct Operational experience in terminal operations or related industry.
- Detailed understanding of the various links with other functional areas.
- Proven track record and international experience managing complex systems.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship building skills on all levels. Union and Labour relational skills is required.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate across the organization.
- Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and promote a team environment to meet objectives.
- Experience in leading and delivering complex change initiatives in large scale operations.

Job Title: Finance Manager

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safe and sound status of liquid fund, improve net working capital management, maintain proactive dialogue and follow up with accounts receivable key stakeholders.
- Thorough analysis and review dig deeper in the data reported and improve the quality of the reports including commentary for Managing Director and SMT members.
- Fixed Asset Register and depreciation.
- Spare Parts inventory account management.
- Accounts Receivable: Credit Control: Receipting.
- Accounts Payable: Supplier payment in accordance with company authorization/approvals.
- To co-ordinate with GSC and ensure that off-shored tasks are carried out timely, accurately and completely.
- To oversee the operations of the Payables function to ensure vendors are paid accurately and efficiently.
- To oversee the performance of receivables function to ensure customer invoices are correctly and timely issued.
- Ensure that local finance and controls are complete, accurate and timely in line with global guidelines and local laws and regulations.
- Drive TCO (Take Cost Out) and Revenue Improvement initiatives as per Annual Operating Plan.
- Revenue and Cost accruals as per APM GAAP and IAS.
- Payroll: manage timely payment of payroll and adherence to payroll tax.
- Verification of statutory deductions (PAYE/NHF/Pension).
We Are Looking For
- Requires at least five years of progressively more responsible general accounting and finance experience preferably in the private sector, and in transportation or related industry.
- Education - Master's degree in Finance/ACCA/CA preferred.
- Must be familiar with finance and banking concepts and the tools for analyzing financial decisions, based on modern financial theory, including such things as discounted cash flow techniques, capital budgeting and valuation; investment decisions, analysis of corporate financial policy, including capital structure, cost of capital, financial markets, and merger and acquisition activities.
- Must be familiar with commercial law, credit agreements, concession and management agreements, and other related legislation, decrees, and legal opinions.
- Extensive knowledge of setting of ROFO /budgets, reporting in HFM/ZIMPL, inventory control systems and accounting, knowledge of ERP systems, IFS financials software is an advantage.
- Extensive knowledge of APM Terminals operational practices preferred.
- Experience in the operation of APM Terminals container facilities preferred.
- Analyses performance statistics and trends in order to identify areas for improvements and cost savings i.e. cost saving potentials.

Job Title: Shift Manager

Key Responsibilities
- Manage all terminal operations during a shift in accordance with plans within the parameters of customer requirements, management direction and safe working practices to achieve agreed levels of productivity and customer service by optimum utilization of recourses.
- Ensure that all personnel within the shift work efficiently to meet Terminal goals, including the external suppliers and serve as primary informational contact for all members of the organization during vessel port call.
- Coordinate and monitor terminal planning and operations to ensure vessels meet sailing or berthing deadlines and ensure proactive action on any foreseen issues. (No changes to be made without consent of relevant Planning).
- Liaise with engineering department shift management to maximise equipment availability and effectiveness.
- ls responsible for efficient allocation of all shift operational staff and the cost-effective utilisation of equipment resources to match the operational requirements of the terminal.
- Ensure that recognised safe working practices are utilised for all terminal operations and maintain effective implementation of safety policies and procedures.
- Provide first line of response for emergency situations and damage assessments.
- Provide terminal presence by maintaining significant visibility checks all quay side and yard activities continuously throughout shift and prepare operational reports as required by management.
- Ensure quay crane idle time is minimal to enable continuous and smooth operations.
- Assist in the development of staff to ensure they perform at efficient and effective levels by monitoring performances taking appropriate action in order they reach full potential.
- Contribute to “on the job” training of supervisory staff and undertake other duties within capabilities as required by senior management.
- Liaise with the Customer Services Manager to continually review, identify and recommend improved operating procedures and systems where required.

We Are Looking For
- Require a high school diploma with extensive marine operations experience or a college degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Business Administration or related discipline.
- Require at least seven years or more of strong supervisory experience in container terminal operations environment, or similar, related industry. Previous experience as a foreman, supervisor, superintendent or other similar position would be expected as a natural progression to this position.
- Is thorough familiar with the strict implementation of international standards of safe working practices within marine, stevedoring and terminal operations.
- Is conversant with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulations for the on-board segregation of hazardous cargoes and storage within a terminal area.
- Advanced computer skills with a sound understanding of modern terminal planning and control systems.
- Require an in-depth, comprehensive understanding of container terminal operations, especially vessel cargo logistics, hazardous cargo, break-bulk and special cargo handling requirements and equipment.
- Provide leadership and ensure cooperation and support from employees and contractors in all areas of terminal operations to achieve operational objectives of the business using a teamwork approach.

- We are currently seeking a Chief Commercial Officer to be based in APM Terminals Apapa Ltd., Lagos Nigeria.
- The Chief Commercial Officer ensures fact-based understanding and presentation of local market (supply and demand & utilization), local customers and hinterland, capabilities vs competition, switching costs across competition, market rates levels (in a compliant manner), and service provided vs the competition. Translate that into a robust Value Proposition (overall for the terminal and then further tailored for each commercial opportunity). Also, a key member of the terminal management team and has a direct influence on the growth and development of the terminal

Key Responsibilities
Local Commercial Strategy:
- As a part of the Operating System, gather and translate Market Data using “Standard Work” from the Global Commercial Function into a clear Commercial Choices.
- Drive and recommend the local Commercial strategy, both short term and long term. Should be focused on the Landside Customer (LSC) and generating new streams of revenue.
- Provides input for decision making and overall Terminal strategy to Global Commercial function and Senior Management Team.
- Establish strategic marketing plans to achieve Commercial objectives.
- Operating as the commercial glue that joins up business decision making with the Commercial and financial impacts and facilitating tough choices as necessary across the business.
Customer Care:
- Ensure positive and upward trending NPS.
- Understand and refine the Customer Journey and where the Customer Journey links into local processes.
- Implement processes and technology as a part of the Global Customer Experience initiatives.
- Ensure APMT delivers against agreed standards for each part of the Customer Journey – should be quantifiable and actionable.
- Proactively Co-ordinates customer issues with relevant department & maintains a one-point customer contact.
- Consistently ensure that levels of customer care have been defined in the Customer Journey and that these levels are proactively met.
- Explore methods or solutions to enhance the customer experience i.e. Digital, using global communities and guidelines for local implementation
Sales:
- Responsible for attracting and retaining customers and ensure development of a highly professional relationship to the various decision’s makers within the customer’s organization (Local and Country Level).
- Manage and maintain relationships with key accounts, Landside and Seaside.
- Manage development of overall standards and guidelines for Sales & Marketing, including pricing of LSC products, service, promotion, advertising and PR and media.
- Drive the implementation and continuous application of the APM Terminals Sales Process.
- Drive, develop and deploy best practices within Sales & Marketing.
- Identify, develops and oversees business opportunities locally.
- Analyses marketing programs and adjust strategy and tactics to increase effectiveness.
- Ensure contracts are properly signed and administered according to Global Standards.
Cost Analysis and Local Tariffs:
- Prepare and recommend local standard tariff. Translate changes into revenue analysis.
- Ensure Regional S&P teams have the “incremental cost to serve” for each carrier deal.
- Work with Regional S&P and ensure that “annual increases” are sent early and in line with Global OS.
- Provide download of “Billing Data” to Regional S&P per Operating System.
LSC and Product Development:
- Drive and oversee the development of new products and services, through the identification, development, marketing of such products and services.
- Identify opportunity for terminal to generate additional income via land revenues.
Performance Management:
- Provide leadership and strategy to team.
- Define and track SLA’s, KPIs and targets whilst reporting deviations, developing improvement actions where necessary.
- Encourage the use of new processes, procedures and technology to enhance Commercial performance and efficiency.
- Implement, drive and support the Global Commercial Operating System and maintain regular contact with peers from other APMT terminals.
- Accountable for the management and improvement of local NPS.
