Job Title: Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer

Location: Lagos

About the job

  • We are seeking a responsible Health, Safety and Environment Officer to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines.
  • As the HSE Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining effective health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations.
  • You will work closely with all levels of the organization to promote a proactive HSE culture, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Your role will involve conducting audits, inspections, and investigations, as well as providing training and guidance to employees on HSE policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with relevant aviation regulations, industry best practices, and company standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Analyze safety data, incident reports, and trend analysis to identify recurring issues and develop strategies for prevention.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conduct risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate risks associated with aviation operations.
  • Coordinate and participate in incident investigations, ensuring accurate root cause analysis and timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training programs to enhance employee awareness, knowledge, and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Monitor compliance with HSE regulations and standards, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and fostering a proactive safety culture.
  • Stay updated on new and evolving HSE regulations, guidelines, and industry practices relevant to the aviation industry.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HSE-related matters, promoting a positive and safe work environment.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to HSE activities and ensure timely submission to regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. Degree in Safety Management, Engineering or a relevant field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Health, Safety and Environment Officer.
  • 3 - 5 years post-NYSC work experience in the Oil and Gas/Aviation industry preferred
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Diligent with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics.
  • Working knowledge of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations / ICAO / FAA and EASA standards.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is a MUST.
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus
