Job Title: Head, Well Operations

Job Summary

  • The Head of Well Operations is responsible for furnishing operational experience and managerial depth required for the direction of development, appraisal, or exploratory drilling and all other well work operations (either onshore, swamp, or offshore). He is also responsible for the operation of the Team’s forward-operating drilling base.  Directly responsible for all aspects of drilling operations and works closely with the management to obtain required engineering, materials, operations, logistical security, and medical support to conduct operations using necessary engineering support and applications of technology.

Main Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for the management and conduct of all drilling and allied operations required to conduct assigned projects.
  • Coordinates drilling execution start-up activities, acquires required drilling materials, sets specifications for the drilling rig and other equipment, establishes personnel requirements, etc., to support the operation.
  • Directly responsible for arranging timely preparation and endorsement of each drilling program, as well as security and emergency response plans in collaboration with the EHSSQ department.
  • Work with the supply chain to ensure timely procurement of the right rigs for drilling operations.
  • Ensures the rigs are available to drill as needed
  • Directly responsible for the setup, management, and running of the team’s forward operating base to support rig operations.
  • Participates in the preparation of overall plans and budgets to include Drilling performance goals.
  • Responsible for safety management controls.
  • Supports the Drill Teams in establishing and progressing safety, health, and environmental initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for management presentations.
  • Responsible for supporting strategic planning efforts including rig scheduling, performance analysis, and budget preparations.
  • Direct responsibility for working with contractors conducting operations to maximize operational efficiency and ensure contract terms are being followed.
  • Works to optimize contractor performance and minimize costs.
  • Supervises Drill Team, including Operations Superintendents, Drilling Supervisors, Engineering staff, and Logistics personnel. 
  • Closely involved in field operations. Regularly visits operations to determine Drilling Program efficiency, safety, and the use of appropriate technology.

Educational Qualifications

  • First Degree in any Engineering discipline
  • Min. 15 years of Well Engineering and Operational experience.  
  • Analytical abilities
  • Oil rig supervisory skills
  • 3-dimensional visualization
  • Computer literacy
  • Well Site Supervisory experience and operational knowledge
  • Valid supervisor-level Well Control certificate (Surface/Floating – combined). 
  • In-depth knowledge of horizontal, deviated drilling, mud engineering, casing design, completions design and well-testing
  • O&G Industry dynamics
