The Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria exists to identify and study and / or important human health issues and / or issues related to health; to provide informed advice on medical, health issues and related matters; to publish and circulate or cause to be published and circulated information from research findings for the prevention of diseases / disorders and / or health promotion.

Job Title: Executive Secretary and Chief Operating Officer

Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • A new Academy needs the services of an Executive Secretary and Chief Operating Officer (COO), who will help effectively grow and develop the organization and ensure its operating efficiency.
  • The Academy is a highly‐skilled non-profit professional organization that provides leadership, vision, and direction to the organization and its executives.
  • The Executive Secretary will represent the Executives to the public, leads organizational development and strategic planning, optimizes financial performance, builds donor relationships, and oversees the organization’s personnel.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Operating Officer will among others:

  • Report to and work closely with President, Board of Trustees, and the Executive Council to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
  • Supervise and collaborate with organization’s staff.
  • Implement strategic planning
  • Oversee organization’s Board, Council, and committee meetings.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the President and the Board of Trustees.

Desirable Qualifications and Competencies

  • A Master's Degree in Public Health, or equivalent degree, Minimum of three to five years of demonstrated experience with organizational management
  • Strategic planning experience
  • Non-profit management experience
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Computer and internet competencies
  • Connections to the stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability of building and leading teams
  • Demonstrated experience fundraising: grant writing, year‐end appeals, soliciting major gifts
  • Demonstrated experience setting and managing budgets and financial forecasting
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions
  • Ability to work unsupervised.

Salary
Negotiable salary; based on the area of expertise, level of experience, education, certifications, and other factors.
