Emergency WASH Assistant at Malteser International


Malteser International has been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria and more specifically in Borno State, MI is currently active in the WASH sector for improving the lives of both the IDP population as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. They include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion. Job Title: Emergency WASH Assistant

Locations: Maiduguri, Jere and Konduga - Borno

Job Description

  • Under the management of the Emergency WASH Officer, the incumbent of this position will provide support in coordinating WASH in emergency preparedness and response, Monitoring and Reporting Networking and partnership-building through Accountabilities and Related Duties/Tasks.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and operational support throughout all stages of programming processes and ensure integration, coherence and harmonization of WASH with other MI sectors
  • Support Emergency WASH Officer in the development and implementation of the MI WASH Response Plan (targets, indicators, activities, budget), ensuring quality response implementation of the implementing partners and accounting for specific needs of women, men, boys, girls and persons with disabilities.
  • Prepare requisitions for supplies, services, long-term agreements and partnership agreements to ensure MI is prepared to deliver on its commitments for WASH
  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and partners to discuss implementation issues, provide solutions, and recommendations and/or to alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level interventions and decisions
  • Prepare regular and mandated sectoral programme/project reports for management, donors and partners to keep them informed of programme progress.
  • Support the Emergency WASH Officer in identifying and implementing strategies and mechanisms to scale up the WASH preparedness and response in case of an emergency
  • Ensure effective and coherent analysis of implementation, including identifying and recommending appropriate actions to cover gaps, involving all relevant partners

Your Profile

  • A University Degree in one of the following fields is required: Public Health, Social Sciences, Ssanitary Engineering, Utility Engineering, Environment or Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Climate change or another relevant technical field
  • Proven ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders in an emergency
  • Excellent presentational skills
  • Being immediately available.
  • Experience CCM setting is well-appreciated, with at least 2 years of progressively responsible humanitarian work experience with UN, governments, and/or NGO, including programme management and/or coordination in the first phase of a major emergency response relevant to the cluster
