Community Outreach Assistant at Green Concern for Development (GREENCODE)
Green Concern for Development (GREENCODE) is a National registered NGO with CAC No: CAC/IT/NO 25643 and has been in operation for over 10 years. Our mission is to work with the poor and socially excluded people and government for the promotion of environmental and human rights protection in communities in Nigeria, aimed at poverty reduction through education, information sharing, research, training and direct impact interventions are in humanitarian emergency response and development, with physical presence in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT-Abuja).
Norwegian Church Aid in collaboration with its implementing partners (GREENCODE) will implement the GBV-NMFA Project in Borno State, towards strengthening the resilience of vulnerable girls, boys, women, and men against gender base violence in Dikwa and interlinked component in the area of WASH.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Community Outreach Assistant

Job Summary
- As part of NCA/GREENCODE gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response program, the Community Outreach Worker will work to increase the community’s understanding of GBV (including its causes and consequences) and to engage men, women, boys and girls in developing their own strategies to prevent violence and create safer and healthier communities.
- The Community Outreach Worker will also contribute to the weekly and monthly reporting of the Prevention component implemented in Dikwa, Borno State.
Dimension of Role
- Create and maintain a positive and fruitful relationship with women, girls and the general community.
- Carry out community sensitization, awareness raising, and education activities in the community.
- Facilitate support to women and girls who visit and may want to visit the safe space to access services and other supports.
- Engage men and boys on GBV prevention-related activities
- Provide referrals to vulnerable women, girls, and especially GBV survivors to access services available in the community and at the safe space.
- Closely work with the Caseworkers, ASRH Officer, GBV Officer in the formation of the Adolescent girls group with consultation and engagement from their parents.
- Carry out weekly adolescent girls and boys sessions as agreed
- Carryout the economic empowerment activities as agreed and especially the VSLA for women and girls.
- Plan and implement agreed project activities with support from the Supervisor
- Conduct outreach activities to encourage women and girls to seek health care and other services.
- Ensure that a psychosocial approach/perspective is employed in all work activities and decisions and that these reflect the priorities and best interests of women and girls been assisted.
- Establish regular coordination and liaison with community leaders, other NGOs, service providers, and local organizations etc.
- Ensure that all program activities create a neutral and supportive environment for women and girls.
- Ensure strict adherence to GREENCODE code of conduct
Key Requirements
- University Degree or its equivalent in Community / Rural Development / Education, Social Sciences, or equivalent is a requirement.
- 1 - 3 years work experience.
- Demonstrated discretion and good judgment
- Experience working with survivors of GBV
- Previous training / experience in GBV programming an asset
- Comfortable in living and working in Dikwa.
- Previous social work and or community engagement work experience or experience working with women and girls and communities affected by conflict required.
- Good training, communication and facilitation skills necessary
- Hausa and English languages required; Kanuri language is a must
- Demonstrated commitment to helping others.
Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:
- Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within GREENCODE and amongst beneficiaries served by GREENCODE.
Compliance & Ethics:
- Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout GREENCODE.
- As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of GREENCODE and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.
