KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation Nigeria is a non-profit public health organization firmly equipped with technical and administrative capacity in providing technical TB and TB/HIV support services, strengthening TB service delivery, support health system strengthening and research in Nigeria. Our programs are designed to advance the WHO Global End TB strategy of creating a world free of TB.

We employ a systems approach, using data-driven quality improvement methods to identify and address gaps in TB diagnostic and treatment services. Our work to end TB focuses on collaborative planning, design, and implementation, engaging the private sector, strengthening service delivery platforms, community structures and improving the quality of services.

Background

  • KNCV since 2000 has implemented successive 5-year circles of USAID funded flagship TB projects and is presently implementing USAID TB LON 1 & 2 project across 14 states in Nigeria.
  • Through President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief funding (PEPFAR), KNCV Nigeria/ TB CARE I project provided and expanded TB/HIV services across 35 of 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
  • KNCV TB Foundation Nigeria is also implementing the STOP TB Partnership / UNOPS funded TB Connectivity project across 14 states in Nigeria in collaboration with the NTBLCP. Furthermore, KNCV TB Foundation Nigeria provides technical assistance towards community and facility TB case finding, linkage and treatment across Lagos, Edo and Bayelsa states as a member of the USAID Cluster 6 "HALG_ACE Consortium".

Description
TIFA STOM Project:

  • Tuberculosis Implementation Framework Agreement (TIFA) is cooperative agreement funded by USAID through JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. as the lead implementer and KNCV Nigeria as the country-level implementer of two fixed amount awards, the STOM and SOFT projects. The TB Contact Investigation using Spot-to-Tent Onion Model (STOM) project is a 1-year fixed amount award focused on improving contact investigation of pulmonary TB patients using technology and Competency Based Training of Community Health Workers (CHWs) to implement a novel spot-to-tent onion model and provision of TB preventive treatment (TPT) to eligible contacts.

Purpose of the Position

  • The main responsibility of the Community Health Worker is to carry out contact investigation activities within the household of identified index TB cases and offer TPT to all eligible contacts while supporting the linkage to diagnosis and treatment for newly identified presumptive TB cases.  
  • S/he will also support providers and other team members through an integrated approach to care management and community outreach perform TB case finding activities that support in the delivery of high-quality TB treatment and service delivery across KNCV Nigeria supported facilities.
  • Hierarchically, the Community Health Worker reports to and works under the daily supervision of the TB Advisor/Senior Program Officer. 

Responsibilities
As a Community Health Worker you will:

  • Conduct contact tracing of identified index TB cases and support the linkage of presumptive TB cases identified to diagnosis and treatment
  • Conduct community health promotion and education towards demand creation for contact tracing activities
  • Provide treatment supporting services to identified cases in the community
  • Document and collate data on reporting tools for contact tracing activities
  • Report weekly and monthly using the approved summary forms
  • Provide escort services for presumptive identified for sample collection or (where applicable) collect samples and transport to health facilities for diagnostic evaluation
  • Linkage of newly identified TB cases to treatment at the nearest DOT centers
  • Perform other roles as can be assigned

Requirements
Who are we looking for?

Education:

  • Minimum of an OND in Basic Sciences or Medical related discipline
  • Past experience in community public health TB program will be an advantage.

Coverage Area:

  • All the LGAs in Akwa Ibom State.

Behavioral competencies and skills:

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Reliable and able to work under pressure.
  • Analytical.
  • Eye for detail.
