  • Seeing is Believing (SiB) is managed by a consortium comprising of Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) International and Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI).
  • The project seeks to improve access to comprehensive eye health services for children. The project will address the avoidable, preventable and treatable causes of blindness and visual impairment among children aged 0-14 in selected states of Nigeria.
  • Equal access to both male and female, as well as people with other disability will also be ensured on the project.
  • The components of the project include; Promotion, Prevention, Medical and Rehabilitation/Education.
  • SiB is being implemented in 11 States, across 4 geopolitical zones in the country, with each zone referred to as a cluster– Cluster 1 (South-West- Oyo, Osun, Ogun); Cluster 2 (North-Central- FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau); Cluster 3 (North-West- Kano, Katsina and Jigawa); and Cluster 4 (South-South- Cross Rivers and Akwa-Ibom).

  • S/he will participate in development of research protocol and tools, as well as, oversee quantitative data collection exercise, responsible for the data cleaning, validation and analysis of the entire study.
Specific Task
  • The data analyst will process the data and analyse it to arrive at conclusions.
  • S/he will look at the numbers (numerical data), trends, and come to new conclusions based on the findings.
  • He will pay attention to detail to ensure that the data is accurate.
  • The data analysts must be able to arrive at correct conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Work with the PI to write the research report.
Qualifications
  • The candidate should possess at least a Master's Degree in Statistics or Computer Science.
  • Analytical Skills with ability to work with large amounts of data: facts, figures, and number crunching.
  • Must be vigilant and think critically
  • Ability to write and communicate complex ideas is an added advantage.

Job Description
  • The translators will translate the FGDs from the local language to English and transcribe the FGDs and IDIs verbatim.
Specific Task
  • Receive briefing from PI and State Consultants who will provide the translator with:
  • The audio recordings of the FGDs in electronic format
  • The expected format for the transcription of the audio recording
  • Listen to the tapes (audio recordings - all recorded in Hausa, Yoruba and Efik as the case may be)
  • Transcribe the audio recordings into a notebook in long hands ensuring legibility
  • Type the handwritten transcripts as a Word document
  • Submit the two documents (long and typed transcripts) to the M&E Team of SiB/CBM /BHVI for review.
  • Hold a review meeting with study coordinator either physically or remotely.
  • Incorporate review comments into the final document
Qualifications
  • FGD Transcription and FGD Translation At least a First Degree or Higher National Diploma in Language Arts, Mass Communication or related subject
  • At least three years’ experience in similar work. (The Consultant might be asked to submit his/her most recent work)
  • Fluency in speaking and written English and at least one local languages
  • Good interpersonal relations and ability to work under time pressure.

Specific Tasks
  • Administer questionnaires to eligible households
  • Apply the sampling methods in determining the eligible households and respondents
  • Submit completed questionnaires to the State team lead for vetting and clarifications to ensure that answers are a true reflection of the discussions held.
Qualifications
  • B.Sc or HND certificates

  • These will serve as FGD & KII moderators and Note takers: Each team will comprise of 1 male and 1 female). Each team is expected to conduct six FGDs and six IDIs with various target groups covering the three geopolitical zones in their assigned States.
Specific Tasks
  • Contribute to the pre-test, review and finalization of study tools
  • Moderate the focus groups and manage data collection, on-site.
  • Guide note-taking and recording of discussion using midgets to record the FGDs and IDIs discussions.
  • Guide the transcription of FGDs and IDIs notes.
  • Contribute to the analysis of findings, with the use of qualitative software.
  • Type the FGDs and IDIs discussions from the midgets for comparison with the hand written notes.
Qualifications
  • At least an advanced University Degree/or a Degree in Social, Behavioural or Health Sciences
  • Five (5) year experience conducting qualitative research especially in moderating and note taking during group sessions
  • Full availability in the study State is required throughout the study duration
  • Either Hausa/Yoruba/Efik language is highly desirable depending on the study location.

Job Description
  • For the purpose of this survey, a consultant with proven expertise in qualitative and quantitative studies will be contracted on a short-term engagement to act as the Principal Investigator who will lead the study.
  • The SiB Programme Director (PD) will provide oversight and technical guidance to the study, drawing support from the representative of the Country Office to ensure that the entire process is of the highest quality.
Specific Tasks The consultant shall, in consultation with SiB/CBM team members, oversee the implementation of the study in the four clusters and the FCT, including the following tasks:
  • Development, pre-test, review and finalization of study tools
  • Oversee the data collection in the states.
  • Guide note taking and recording of discussion and interview
  • Guide the transcription of FGDs notes
  • Conduct analysis of findings of both the quantitative and qualitative data using data analysis software (SPSS and ATLAS ti 8.0) in conjunction with the data analyst.
  • Prepare and submit a draft report of the study, revise and finalize the quantitative and qualitative report and submit an acceptable report to the SiB/CBM Programme.
Qualification
  • An advanced Degree in Demography, Social or Behavioral Sciences, Statistics or related field is required, a Ph.D in the area listed will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated expertise in rigorous quantitative and qualitative research design, implementation and analytical methods.
  • At least ten years’ experience in conduct and management of mixed studies
  • Willingness to work under time pressure
  • Experience in conducting independent qualitative and quantitative, studies, assessments, and data analysis are highly desirable.
  • Excellent ability in qualitative data analysis and interpretation
  • Demonstrated report writing skills for qualitative and quantitative studies
  • Understanding of the context and setting of interventions in Nigeria.
  • Hausa/Yoruba and /or Efik languages are desirable.
