Job Title: Tax and Audit Manager
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Core Job Responsibilities - Tax / Audit
Tax:
- Prepare tax returns and facilitate payments, including suggestions for payment plans.
- Design an annual tax plan aligned with the company’s goals.
- Research, estimate, and track tax returns.
- Prepare and complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports.
- Monitor industry trends and track changes related to taxes.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors.
- Forecast tax predictions to management.
- Ensure compliance with regulators (federal, state, or local authorities).
- Resolve complicated tax issues or errors from incorrect tax filings.
- Advise management about the impact of tax liabilities and corporate strategies or new tax laws.
- Manage, organize, and update the company’s tax database.
- Recommend tax strategies and methods to manage taxes in alignment with business objectives.
- Prepare necessary paperwork for tax payments and returns.
- Share financial data with the accounting department.
- Identify tax savings opportunities and suggest ways to increase profits.
Audit:
- Audit financial statements and assess books of account to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Review internal control systems, perform walkthrough processes, and analyze financial records and transactions.
- Design the auditing process in line with common standards of practice, company policies, business goals, and industry regulations.
- Document all internal processes during audits, listing data sources and detailing conclusions after investigations.
- Develop new best practices within the company to increase accuracy and integrity.
- Participate in professional development to maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in the field.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Identify risk areas in departmental operations and processes.
- Analyze adherence to budgetary standards and guidelines using financial data and balance sheets.
- Review all financial materials and procedures to spot errors, inefficiencies, or instances of misuse.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a BSc degree, with a First Class or 2:1 grade in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or a relevant subject.
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Tax/Audit Accountant.
- Industry certification (ICAN, ACCA, ACA).
- Proficiency with commercial tax and accounting software.
- QuickBooks proficiency.
Requirements and Skills:
- At least 3 years of working experience as a Tax and Audit Accountant, Tax Analyst, or Auditor.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Strong communication skills and good interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with challenging work.
- Good multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
- Familiarity with accounting software packages.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and other relevant computer tools.
- Excellent analytical and time management skills.
- Strong numeracy skills.
