General Description of the Position
- The Child Protection Supervisor, under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, holds a pivotal role in overseeing and directing all child protection programs, including case management, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) initiatives.
- Tasked with planning, executing, and supervising these programs, the Supervisor provides vital technical guidance, facilitates capacity-building efforts, ensures stringent quality assurance, and actively engages with communities to ensure efficient service delivery and coordination.
- Additionally, the Supervisor oversees emergency initiatives, collaborating closely with stakeholders to integrate relevant components into the response efforts.
- By providing strategic direction and operational support across child protection domains, the Supervisor makes significant contributions to enhancing interventions and safeguarding the well-being and rights of vulnerable children and families.
Responsibilities & Tasks
Supervision and Technical Support:
- Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of child protection activities in emergency settings.
- Develop detailed program plans, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, donor requirements, and humanitarian standards.
- Oversee the implementation of interventions, including case management, psychosocial support, and education initiatives.
- Raise to the line manager new needs in items and services for the implementation of CP activities and participate in the development of PSR and procurement plans.
- Supervise the effective implementation of the vocational skills training program, livelihood, and small business component of the project.
- Establish and manage up-to-date records of all activities at the skills facilitation and training centers, including statistics and stock records of materials/equipment.
- Maintain the database on all CP activities.
- Recruit, train, and supervise a team of child protection and education staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and support as needed.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff to enhance their skills and competencies.
- Facilitate capacity-building initiatives to strengthen staff knowledge and expertise in child protection and education in emergency response.
- Oversee the small business grant start-up, apprenticeship, and cooperatives.
Staff Management:
- Manage and support the performance of CP staff through regular supervision, mentoring, and capacity building.
- Facilitate team meetings, promote a positive work environment, and address any staff-related issues or concerns.
Capacity Building:
- Identify training needs and develop capacity-building plans for CP staff.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance staff skills and competencies in relevant areas.
Quality Assurance and Monitoring:
- Establish and implement quality assurance mechanisms to ensure the effectiveness and quality of CP services.
- Monitor program activities, data collection, and reporting systems to track progress, identify gaps, and facilitate continuous improvement.
Community Engagement and Advocacy:
- Engage with communities to raise awareness about case management, mental health and psychosocial support in emergency.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of vulnerable populations, particularly women, children, and survivors of trauma.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Ensure regular assessments of Tdh activities through technical follow-up sessions, spot checks and monitoring visits aiming at improving the quality and efficiency of the intervention (lessons learned and capitalization)
- Coordinate and ensure collection of quantitative and qualitative data in respect to the confidentiality policies and procedures
- Establish monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track progress, measure impact, and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports on program activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate documentation of program activities, including case files, monitoring reports, and other relevant data on CPIMS+
- Ensure that monitoring system documents and tools are understood and properly filed by the team and systematically submitted to the MEAL department
- Liaise and coordinate with the MEAL department to facilitate the implementation and compliance with the MEAL plans designed for the projects
Reporting:
- Ensure regular communication with the Head of Base about updates, achievements and challenges through activity progress reports, meetings and ad-hoc communication.
- Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and or monitoring reports on child protection activities.
- Compile training reports, including pre and post-test analysis, and success stories on child protection activities.
- Document the response, experiences, and lessons learned on child protection in emergencies programming related to child protection activities.
- Conduct regular assessments, analysis, and advise on program design and modifications for child protection activities.
- Ensure compliance with CP program actions and lead the review of progress through reporting on Programme follow-up.
- Provide weekly SITREPs and Monthly reports of CP activities and contribute inputs for regular donor and internal reports.
- Supervise CP service mapping in the intervention area and assess current child protection programming within Nigeria.
- Promote a culture of learning and documentation to share lessons learned and good practices in child protection activities.
- Lead the CP team in proficient information management, monitoring and evaluation, and information sharing.
- Manage and consolidate child protection databases, CPIMS+ and support the development of monitoring and evaluation tools for performance improvement.
- Ensure data protection assurance in coordination with the MEAL department for child protection and education activities.
- Develop appropriate IEC materials on CP to build awareness of services and promote key messages.
Coordination and Representation:
- Coordinate the overall management and coordination of case management and MHPSS programs.
- Ensure integration and collaboration between different program components and sectors to provide holistic support to beneficiaries.
- Maintain regular communication and collaboration with relevant ministries, agencies, and departments (MWASD) to facilitate effective coordination of CP activities.
- Report to the Head of Base and actively participate in Case Management case conferences, MHPSS working groups, and CPSS Sector under their supervision.
- Coordinate with humanitarian actors within the area of responsibility, including MHPSS working groups, Child Protection Sub Sector, CM Task Force, and other relevant groups to promote coordination and collaboration.
- Advocate for child protection issues with other humanitarian actors in project locations and maintain regular communication with CM Technical Coordinator/Activity Coordinator regarding field updates, achievements, and challenges.
- Ensure close coordination with Tdh case management, PSS, and Community-Based teams for identification and referrals, and coordinate with Tdh support departments to ensure timely procurement and distribution within the Emergency CM Fund.
- Proactively cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders in the designated area to foster collaboration and support for CP initiatives.
- Ensure full coordination with communities and community leaders to address child protection and Education in emergency needs comprehensively.
- Promote coordination and integration with other sectors within Tdh to enhance the effectiveness of initiatives.
- Participate in specific mental health/psychosocial sector meetings or related meetings, such as Protection, and GBV, , as requested by the line manager.
Security:
- Comply with Tdh Security Regulations
Other:
- Agree to comply with the Tdh Code of Conduct and promote the Child Safeguarding policy
- Report serious cases of abuse on children that she/he would be aware of in Tdh’s intervention locations. Strict confidentiality must be respected
- Ensure adherence to Tdh standards and quality requirements in all the project activities.
- Adhere to and ensure the team under her/his responsibility follows Tdh administrative and logistical regulations and procedures.
- Adhere to and enforce current administrative and logistical regulations and procedures.
- Fully comply with Tdh Code of Conduct and ensure Child Safeguarding Policy, PSEA are always upheld.
- Deliver any other tasks as assigned by the his/her Supervisor.
Requirements
- Education Degree: B.Sc. or Master's Degree in Social Work, Social studies, Psychology, Sociology, and/or other relevant disciplines from a recognized University
- Knowledge & skills: Previous experience with an NGO is mandatory. Previous experience in emergency response is appreciated. Experience in protection, notably child protection, and Education is required.
- Computer skills: Excellent IT skills.
- Work experience: Minimum of five years experience designing, planning, implementing, supervising, and reporting on Child Protection in Emergencies Programming
- Language Skills: Excellent written and spoken English. Understanding of Hausa, Kanu, and Shuwa is an added advantage
- Other: Knowledge of the Northeast Nigerian context would be an advantage.
