Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) was incorporated in 2016 as a Transport Asset Acquisition, Operations, and Advisory Services Company to provide a much-needed compass and guide to the operation of Bus Services in Lagos.

As Lagos evolves into a smart city, LBSL is positioned to create a very competitive space in the Transport Industry where urban mobility guarantees a market for mass transit transport operators; with availability and pricing as key decision drivers. LBSL is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the orderliness, proper coordination and progress of the Transport Industry in Lagos.

Job Title: Workshop Manager

Location: Oshodi, Lagos

Job Description

  • As a Workshop Manager, you will be the backbone of our operational success, overseeing the daily activities of our workshop to ensure efficiency, productivity, and quality output. Your role is critical in maintaining a well-organized and smoothly functioning workshop environment.
  • You'll be responsible for managing a team, optimizing workflows, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance Management:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all Scania buses.
  • Ensure all preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs are performed on time and to
  • the highest standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, parts inventory, and repair history.

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Supervise and lead a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations to workshop staff.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.

Operational Efficiency:

  • Monitor workshop operations to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to reduce downtime and improve vehicle
  • turnaround times.
  • Manage the procurement of parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring cost-effective and timely availability.

Quality Assurance and Safety:

  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work meets safety and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Stay updated on industry standards and regulations, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and guidelines.

Budget and Cost Management:

  • Develop and manage the workshop budget, controlling cost and optimizing resource
  • allocation.
  • Monitor expenses and seek opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare regular reports on maintenance activities, fleet performance, and workshop operations.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management, providing updates and recommendations for improvement.
  • Liaise with external vendors, suppliers, and service providers via the supply chain as needed.
  • Ensure workshop staff provide regular hourly updates on assigned activities at least four times each shift (twice in the first four hours of a shift, and once in the last four hours of each shift).
  • Carry out daily audits of the workshop tools and equipment prior to the commencement and closure of each shift (this report should be shared at the close of business).
  • The audit should show the operational status of the tools and equipment.
  • Carry out total preventive maintenance on workshop tools and equipment (including cleaning of work area prior to commencement and closure of a shift.
  • Implement an optimal preventive maintenance program, condition-based maintenance, and defect elimination program for the fleet.
  • Ensure a plan is drawn and shared for review and approval at the end of each day, and a handover report is shared stating what was achieved, what activities are pending, challenges encountered, and actions required to address challenges.
  • Ensure all workshop staff are appraised daily.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis and prepare job safety procedures prior to approving each repair (the approval or sign of working instructions which must begin with the job safety procedures would serve as the Permit To Work (PTW) for the assigned party (staff or contractor).
