Job Title: Gender Training Support/Consultant - Gender Awareness and Mainstreaming for Lead Firms and Key Facilitating Partners
Location: Bauchi, Nigeria

Background
- Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) is an international economic development organization whose mission is to create business solutions to poverty The Nigeria WAY is a five-year project that will assist economically active women and youth to increase their income particularly those who are involved in agro-processing in the rice, soybean and groundnut value chains
- In addition, the project will work with communities and families to improve the environment where girls grow up and become economically active. The project, funded by Government of Canada and MEDA, utilises a private sector development approach which seeks to engage private sector firms to include women and youth in their business practice.
- The goal of the project is to improve the incomes and contribution of women and young people to Nigeria’s economic development
- The specific objectives include directly support to 16,000 mainly women and youth-led SSBs and ENs to increase their income and strengthen their business performance in three value chains
- In addition, the project seeks to improve the overall business environment for women and youth led SSBs and ENs, and to strengthen dialogue in community and family about risks to children entering the market system.
The Task
- To enable Nigeria WAY Project to reach its goal, we engage with partners who are doing business in the rice, peanut and soybean value chain mainly in agro-processing but also in other value-added activities to include women as clients and customers. These partners, referred to as Key Facilitating Partners (KFPs) and Lead Firms (LFs), are the access point to Nigeria WAYs clients who are mainly female-led SSBs and ENs.
- To raise awareness about how businesses can better target women businesses and make visible the obstacles for women business owners and workers in Bauchi state, the Nigeria WAY Project seeks a consultant or organisation
- The Consultant or firm is to support the development of relevant training materials and, to conduct a five (5) day training workshop on gender awareness and mainstreaming for Lead Firms (LF), and Key Facilitating Partners (KFPs).
Objectives of the Consultancy
- To develop training materials that will advance Nigeria WAY’s gender equity approach with Lead Firms (LFs) and Key Facilitating Partners (KFPs) to ensure women and young women are included in market systems development and their contribution to economic development is enhanced
- Specifically, the training should strengthen participants’ understanding in gender equality and equity, and the importance of mainstreaming gender in their activities, policies and strategies.
Specific objectives include the following:
- Increase participants understanding of basic elements of gender mainstreaming approach and strategies.
- Enhance participants’ organizational capacities to address and mainstream gender issues in their organizations.
- Facilitate participants skills in using GEM Framework as basis for integrating gender issues into their organizational strategies, programmes, policies and activities.
Deliverables and Timeline
- Support the participants to formulate a gender action plan in their organizations;
- Final Report.
- Develop training content, modules, delivery methodology, agenda and presentations;
- Work plan is developed, submitted and implemented as planned;
- Design pre and post workshop assessment templates;
- Conduct a 5 days training for KFPs and LFs;
Requirements
The Consultant(s) should have the following experience and skills:
- Advanced University Degree (Master's Degree) in the field of Gender tor other related areas;
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Hausa;
- Experience in the integration of gender in curricula development in agriculture value chain is desirable;
- Conduct gender mainstreaming work with businesses and provide practical business-oriented solutions.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in gender mainstreaming in rural development and agriculture projects, including strengthening institutions’ capacities to promote sustainable development practices in the rural and agriculture sector, in developing countries;
- The consultants will be expected to have practical experience of dealing with Gender/presentation and a background in Gender or relative fields;
- Affinity with rural and agriculture development;
