Job Title: Legal Officer & Executive Assistant to CEO
Location: Lagos
Internal: All departments as required
External: Regulators, External Counsel, Public Authority, and Clients
Department / Division/Unit: Executive Office
Job Objective
- Giving accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics. Collaborating with management to devise efficient defense strategies. Acting as the administrative point of contact between the CEO and internal/external clients.
Job Duties/ Responsibilities
- Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust
- Draft and solidify agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure the company’s full legal rights
- Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces
- Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
- Conduct your work with integrity and responsibility
- Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation
- Management of the organization’s companies with the corporate affairs commission;
- Filing of annual returns, filing changes and updating of corporate records and entities at the Corporate Affairs Commission;
- Assisting with corporate secretarial duties and ensuring maintenance of statutory books and records;
- Reviewing of contracts and commercial agreements in various sectors;
- General legal opinions on commercial matters;
- Assisting with the filing, registration and protection of the organizations intellectual property rights such as its trademarks, copyrights, domain names, designs, business methods, patent and inventions
- Legal Roles (Corporate Commercial, Intellectual Property Law, Debt Recovery and Employment)
- Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in a variety of legal topics (labor law, partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance etc.)
- Liaise with our legal consultants on providing solutions or advise on company legally related issues
- Collaborate with management to devise efficient defense strategies
- Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance
- Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
- Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advise on possible legal issues
Executive Assistant Deliverables:
- Oversee administration of the CEO's office and ensure efficient operations;
- Manage and maintain high level schedule, calendar and diary of the CEO with zero tolerance for conflicts and double bookings;
- Organize meetings, participate in meetings; prepare minutes of meetings for management meetings, committee meetings board meetings and other high level meetings;
- Receive and manage all correspondences both internally and externally; write emails and letters as well as establish clear channels of communication with Clients;
- Develop presentations, speeches, reports, documents and other materials as required;
- Manage external contacts for CEO and keep track of communication needed for priority
- Contacts;
- Provide strategic support in the delivery of CEO's mandate and attainment of goals;
- Develop and maintain an internal client filing system. Manage all records and books;
- Assist with budgeting for office expense and related items; prepare and maintain expense reports.
Requirements
Education Qualification:
- LLB in law. LLM will be added advantage
Professional Qualification:
- Relevant professional qualification is an advantage
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in a similar role
Functional/ Technical:
- High degree of professional ethics and integrity
- Sound judgment and ability to analyse situations and information
- Outstanding communication skills
- Proven experience as a legal counsel in business environment
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures
- Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation
- Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
