Urban Designer at Alaro City
Alaro City, is a mixed-income, city-scale development with areas for offices, logistics and warehousing, homes, schools, healthcare facilities, hotels, entertainment and 150 hectares of parks and open spaces. Located in the North West Quadrant of the Lekki Free Zone, Alaro City lies in the growthpath of Lagos, one of Africas fastest-growing cities with a population of over 20 million. Alaro City is adjacent to the future Lagos international airport and close to the regions largest deep-sea port and major Nigerian and international companies. Developed by Rendeavour, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, as a joint venture that boosts foreign direct investment in Nigeria and will create tens of thousands of jobs. Rendeavour is Africas largest new city developer. We are building 7 new cities across our 12,000-hectare portfolio spread across 5 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These cities are providing homes, education, healthcare facilities and industrial parks within a well-planned urban environment, delivering new roads and utilities such as power, water and sewerage to our communities.

Job Title: Urban Designer

Responsibilities
Brief about the role:
- Under the guidance of the Group Head of Urban Planning and Design, the Urban Designer will be a dynamic urban development professional holding accredited qualifications in architecture, landscape architecture or urban planning & design.
- The role will encompass all aspects of research, concept design, documentation, quality control, project management, and client negotiation and management.
- The Urban Designer is required to work with Partners, Associates and other staff to manage the design concepts that are developed for a project, protect and sustain them through the project stages until the project is finalised.
- This role forms an integral part of our team. The role will require working collaboratively with others, together with a strong sense of initiative, and accountability. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience in the workflows described above.
- Working on master plans, precinct plans and site plans based on input from the clients and the executive team ensuring highest and best use of land and infrastructure
- Work under their own initiative and direction, as part of a large and multi-skilled team, including architects, local government, building contractors, material suppliers and local communities
- Supporting the development of the overall urban design and architectural guidelines for the city. The urban planning and design guidelines must ensure a high urban quality is aspired to and attained in all scopes of work relating to physical space
- Prepare design concepts, schematic designs and detailed plans for streetscape improvements, parks, housing and commercial development, as well as integrated community urban design plans; prepare construction plans, specifications and bidding documents for landscape improvements
- Reviewing and revising of the different city masterplans based on input from the executive and other professionals such as engineers and land surveyors.
- Working with the sales and other teams in determining developer requirements and appropriately locating proposed developments within the city.
- Supporting urban planning and design functions in other properties within the Rendeavour portfolio
- Infuse urban design philosophies into all aspects of urban development within the City projects
- Oversee the administration and inspection of the construction of urban design, landscape and architecture schemes
- Coordinate development of projects with other city projects/programs, coordinating necessary land use and construction programmes with other city departments
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Urban Design
- Minimum 5 years of demonstrable experience in urban design and development work
- Preference to have had exposure to work on international projects
- Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers, clients and technical
- Demonstrable creative design capacity using different tools and media from sketching, CAD, illustration (Adobe Suite) and post-production software.
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Hands on experience in delivering public realm projects
- Good knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and theory of urban design.
- Good knowledge of design development, urban design, and documentation on a wide variety of projects.
- Good knowledge of applicable codes, laws, rules, standards and processes to ensure the compliance of project quality standards.
- Good knowledge of urban design concepts, practices, procedures and final documents.
