United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria is supporting the Government of Nigeria to strengthen prevention of and response all forms of violence against children. In particular, assistance will be provided to strengthen the child protection system, including through modelling the system in four States, in order to demonstrate the impact of a well-functioning child protection system, to develop a common model for operationalizing the Child Rights Act at State level and to develop standardized tools, including regulations, working protocols and training manuals to govern the system.

Job Description

UNICEF Nigeria seeks the services of an experienced WASH Officer who will be accountable for professional technical contribution to programme/project design, planning, administration, monitoring and evaluation of WASH programme/project activities, data analysis and progress reporting, and commitment for enhancement of teamwork and capacity building, in support of achievement of planned objectives of the work plan, aligned with country programme goals and strategy.

Qualification and Competencies Required

  • University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Public Health, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Sanitation Engineering, or a field relevant to international WASH related development assistance.
  • Essential professional knowledge on current developments in the areas of: Community based Rural Water Supply projects implementation including appropriate technology options for service delivery; Water quality interventions; Community based sanitation project implementation including appropriate technology options for service delivery; Waste management interventions; Hygiene promotion; and Communication for behavior change.
  • Knowledge of and experience in WASH programme Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • Computer knowledge, skills and proficiency including internet navigation, network telecommunication and various office applications.
  • Gender and diversity awareness.
  • Two years of professional work experience in WASH programme design, planning, monitoring and evaluation as well as in Emergency preparedness and response
  • Fluency in English and local working language of the duty station.
