Job Title: Translation Consultant for Policy Brief on Gendered Impact of Climate Change and Natural Resources Management

Locations: Abuja, Benue, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara

Job Description

  • The primary objective of this assignment is to engage qualified consultants to translate the policy brief developed by International Alert into Hausa and Tiv languages, maintaining accuracy, clarity, and cultural sensitivity.

Responsibilities
The consultant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Review the English version of the policy brief provided by International Alert.
  • Translate the policy brief content accurately into Hausa and Tiv languages while maintaining consistency with the original document.
  • Ensure that the translated content reflects the cultural context and nuances of the target regions.
  • Provide a high-quality translation within the agreed timeframe.

Deliverables:
The consultant is expected to deliver the following:

  • Translated versions of the policy brief in Hausa and Tiv languages in editable electronic format (Word document).
  • A brief report outlining any challenges encountered during the translation process and how they were addressed.

Timeline:

  • The consultant will be expected to complete the translation within Five working days, starting from the date of contract signing.

Reporting and Coordination:

  • The consultant will report to the Project Manager who is the focal point for the project. Regular communication and updates on the progress of the translation will be required throughout the duration of the assignment.

Evaluation:

  • The quality of the translation will be evaluated based on accuracy, clarity, and adherence to cultural nuances. Feedback from stakeholders and end-users will also be considered in the evaluation process.

Confidentiality:

  • The consultant is expected to treat all documents and information provided for this assignment with utmost confidentiality and not to disclose any sensitive information to third parties without prior authorization.

Ownership of Materials:

  • Upon completion of the assignment and full payment, the translated versions of the policy brief will be the property of International Alert, and the consultant will have no further claim to the materials.

Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Proficiency in both English and either Hausa or Tiv languages, with demonstrated translation experience.
  • Previous experience in translating policy documents or similar materials is highly desirable.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to convey complex concepts accurately in the target languages.
  • Understanding of gender, climate change, natural resources management, conflict, and criminality issues in the context of Northern Nigeria.
