Since 1960, Tdh has helped build a better future for deprived children and their communities, making an impact with innovative and sustainable solutions. Active in more than 45 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement field projects that improve the daily lives of over 3 million children and their relatives, in the domains of health, protection, and emergency relief. This engagement is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.

Job Title: Skill Facilitator

Context of the Call for Applications

  • Terre des Hommes has been working in Maiduguri doing WASH, Health, and Child Protection activities since early 2018. Therefore, Tdh would wish to engage the service of facilitator from this state to undertake the tasks of training children in the area of Incense Making, Baking, Barbing, and Phone Repairs for a period of 5 months.

Background

  • Tdh is implementing a project in In Bolori II funded by SDC, there is a pressing need to provide educational opportunities for out-of-school adolescents who have been deprived of formal education.
  • Recognizing this crucial gap, we have developed a skill acquisition training program as an alternative approach to non-formal education for adolescents between the ages of 15 to 17.
  • This program aims to empower these vulnerable adolescents, who are often referred by the TDH Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) or Case Management, by equipping them with marketable skills that can transform their lives.
  • The skill acquisition training program spans a duration of 5 months, during which participants will engage in comprehensive learning experiences that go beyond traditional classroom settings. By focusing on practical skill development, we aim to provide the necessary tools and knowledge that will enable these adolescents to thrive in their communities and enhance their socio-economic prospects.
  • The beneficiaries of this program are children between the ages of 15 to 17 who have unfortunately found themselves outside the formal education system. Often, they are the most vulnerable individuals within their communities, facing numerous challenges and barriers to a brighter future.
  • Through close collaboration with MHPSS or Case Management, we ensure that those most in need are identified and provided with the opportunity to participate in this transformative training.

Objective

  • The primary objective of this recruitment is to identify and hire skilled facilitators for the following areas: Incense Making, Baking, Barbing, and Phone Repairs.
  • The selected facilitators will be responsible for imparting practical knowledge and hands-on training to participants who are interested in acquiring skills in these domains.
  • Under the supervision of the Tdh Education supervisor and officers

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training modules on Incense Making, Baking, Barbing, and Phone Repairs.
  • Maintain records of training activities and participant attendance.
  • Uphold professional ethics and conduct while interacting with participants.
  • Provide practical demonstrations and guide participants through hands-on learning experiences.
  • Prepare training materials, including presentations, manuals, and practical exercises.
  • Monitor and evaluate participant progress, providing individualized guidance and feedback.
  • Ensure a safe and conducive learning environment during training sessions.
  • Collaborate with the program coordinator to assess the effectiveness of the training and make necessary improvements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a skill acquisition certificate or diploma in any of the following areas: Incense Making, Baking, Barbing, Phone Repairs.
  • Proven expertise and hands-on experience in the respective skill area.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt training methods to suit participants with varying levels of experience.
  • Patience and a genuine interest in helping others learn and develop skills.
  • Previous experience in facilitation or teaching is an advantage.
