Job Title: Site Foreman
Location: Ikoyi, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Summary
- To coordinate operations and oversee workers at construction sites and be the key component for completion of projects.
- To be the point of reference of both workers and supervisors. To exhibit leadership and experience in direction of workers by making quick, well organized, and safe decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for supervision of Brick Construction, Façade, Window & Insulation Install, Roof Weathering, and Finishes
- Manage scaffolding, loading bays, and materials
- Check and understand all drawings and specifications.
- Report any errors / omissions to the Project Manager and Site Manager
- Setout works schedules, Supervise, coordinate, and work with the site Engineer allocated to the project
- Oversee the setting out of the works – window install
- Supervise direct / indirect workers allocated or engaged with the works
- Supervise, coordinate, and monitor sub-contractor performance
- Review and monitoring of work to programme schedule
- Execute work to deadlines
- Review RAMS for the works in hand
- Coordinate cranes, deliveries, and logistics on site
- Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, building regulations and good building practice, structural & building tolerance
- Ensure compliance with the company’s quality procedures.
- Carry out / attend white board / coordination meetings
- Monitor cube making / slump test, monitor cube strength
- Responsible for Maintaining a tidy, safe site / work areas, in compliance with health & safety guidelines/standards
- Liaising with the client and design team in a professional manner when required.
- Supervision of the construction on site
- Maintaining site diary – recording manpower levels for each sub-contractor and keeping detailed notes of all site activities
- Manage and coordinate both site staff and sub-contractors on site
- Ensure work is carried out to the highest of standards.
- Signing off and inspections of fit out works
Additional /Site Responsibilities:
- Recognize, report, and/or correct unsafe conditions on the job site.
- Ensure the organization and availability of all tools and materials needed for the current day’s work as well as planning for tomorrow. Load and unload trucks as required.
- Inspect all tools and equipment to ensure safe operation; must have knowledge of how to properly and safely use different equipment, such as power tools, hand tools, vibrators etc.
- Direct and perform the installation or dismantling of concrete forms as needed.
- Ensure that necessary measures are taken to protect adjacent surfaces and structures from splatters, damage, etc during concrete placement.
- Recognize the slump of concrete and proper mixes for different application
- Ensure that the finish floor grade is established and met during concrete placement using lasers, grade stakes or other methods. Grade may be flat or on a slope at any given point
- Use and care of hand tools associated with flatwork placement and finishing. Includes, but not limited to: rakes, screeds, magnesium floats, steel trowels, wood floats, bull floats, edgers, jointers, finishing brooms, etc.
- Use and care of power tools such as lasers, circular saws, cordless tools, etc. Operate power screeds, such as basic vibrating screeds or walk behind laser screeds and power rakes.
- Operate power trowels, both walk-behind and ride-on trowels, while equipped with different attachments such as float pans, float blades and finishing blades.
- Ensure that the correct steps necessary to obtain the specified & required finish for the job are followed.
- Ensure that all control joints are laid out and properly installed per the plan, both hand-tooled and sawn joints.
- Understand different sealers, hardeners, and floor curing methods and the proper way to install each method.
- Manage and coordinate trade sub-contractors on site
- Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with specification and programme
- Responsible for onsite Health and Safety
- Attending weekly site meetings
- Proven leadership skills with a large and diverse workforce
- Excellent analytic problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Monitoring work progress in line with set deadlines, ensuring compliance with set deadlines and project finish dates.
- Report on progress to project manager, engineers, executive management etc
- Plan weekly/monthly work in steel fixing and formwork teams
- Calculation of concrete and rebar quantities on daily and weekly basis and to plan for deadlines
Administrative:
- Coordinate with finishing project manager closely and instruct each crew member in their responsibilities for the day and for the pour.
- Manage all direct reports in items such as attendance issues, time off requests, etc.
- Work closely with the finishing project manager to learn budgets & manhours for each assigned job; manage crews and resources accurately and fairly as needed to improve or maintain the budgeted costs.
- Report all near misses, incidents, or accidents to the job site supervisor. This is critical in the improvement of our safety culture.
- Ensure that the daily pre-task plan is done before beginning any work each day. Conduct and document the weekly toolbox talks.
- Promptly report any and all mechanical problems with equipment or vehicles as well as any needed supplies for the job site.
- Perform, or assist with, the documentation of any employee issues and problems, including employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, good behaviour documentation, etc.
- Train and guide each direct report in the proper aspects of finishing and concrete flatwork in order to consistently produce safe and quality flatwork products.
Qualification & Experience
- OND, HND, BSc or Equivalent Technical College
- Minimum of 10 years of combined Building technology/Civil Engineering works
- Must have worked on large-scale building projects previously
- Experience in organizing labour and sub-contractors
- 5 years’ experience in a foreman’s position
- Team player
- Previous experience as finishing foreman on a commercial and residential projects
- Site supervision experience with a trades test certification.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
- Knowledge of latest building regulations and certification standards.
- A strong sense of ownership and responsibility for tasks/projects
- Computer literate
- Usage of IT/Gadgets on site.
Competencies Required:
- Qualified trade background
- 4+ years’ experience in managerial or supervisory roles, working on a mix of projects
- Up to date with current building regulations
- Strong IT skills
- Understanding of program of schedule of works
- Understanding of technical details about construction of civil work and road works
- Understanding of producing Civil & Road works to specific standards as per design
- Strong personality and understand local labour ie steel fixers and carpenter
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- The ability to lead, use initiative and be self-motivated
- Pro-active approach
- The ability to multi-task and manage many priorities
- Degree in Building technology/ Civil or relevant work experience.
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Must have experience with a main contractor.
- Commercial Awareness
- Strong knowledge and background in Building projects, and interior.
- Strong ability to communicate in proper and fluent written and spoken English
- A strong sense of professional, organizational & leadership skills
