Job Description

  • The Maintenance Technicians are responsible for operating, cleaning and maintaining their plant and equipment to meet the increasing volume and quality demands in a reliable and cost efficient manner.
  • They are also responsible for participating in all BCM improvement initiatives and PIP’s in their department and for their own training and development.
  • They will report to the Shift Manager: Brewing/Packaging or Production Services Engineer, as appropriate. 

Purpose of Role

  • Provide maintenance and continuous improvement skills to deliver and improve on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost and asset care.
  • To apply technical, process, continuous improvement and individual/team development skills to optimise overall brewery improvement and plant performance
  • To adopt a safe and professional approach to all aspects of the role as an individual/team player
  • Observe and ensure compliance to safe systems of work
  • Effective use of maintenance systems data

Top Accountabilities

  • At all times adhere to Guinness Nigeria Plc health and safety, environmental and food safety standards, and work to all applicable legislative procedures.  Responsible for Safe Systems of work.
  • Maintain a safe and organised workplace environment through adherence to the Safety and 5S MMS practices
  • Provide Asset Care Technician resource (electrical and mechanical) to the Operations team
  • Accountable to ensure all assigned Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules are carried out at the defined frequency and completed to the required standard
  • Adhere to GNPLC policy and procedures for safety, health, environment and hygiene to ensure a safe and efficient operating environment. Utilise and apply safe systems of working and pro-actively seek opportunities to improve work environment.
  • Deliver best possible plant operation by maximising plant availability and efficiency of operation through execution of Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules. Interface with Maximo as appropriate.
  • Managed personal development and performance
  • Provide a comprehensive production service on plant and equipment to which they are primarily allocated: operating and cleaning, carrying out maintenance schedules, responding to breakdowns, assessing & monitoring plant performance on an on-going basis and attending to all other process duties in a timely manner.
  • Optimise product quality, through continuous observation and attention to detail, delivering RFT on quality and control parameters. Respond to non-conformances in a timely manner to keep process on track. Apply, record & share learning’s to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Manage materials, components and spares required by their plant and equipment – includes draw down stock from locally provided “bins” and be accountable for whatever stock is drawn down.
  • Technicians will demonstrate flexibility in terms of availability, attitude and work practices, and assist colleagues in breakdowns, maintenance and solving problems on their equipment.
  • With support from Production Services Engineer, achieve production plans and key performance targets, and deliver agreed Customer Service levels.
  • Compile and commentate whatever reports are required – either original reports or those generated automatically. This includes status sheets, check sheets, condition monitoring sheets, etc..
  • Support capital work, including installation, commissioning and testing within area as required.  Responsible for feeding into early equipment management.
  • Actively pursue training and development on an individual and team basis and participate in competency based training programs. Support other team member development and develop positive relationships with colleagues, including contractors.
  • Share and apply new skills as acquired, participate in departmental CI or BCM initiatives and PIP’s to meet/exceed improvement targets. Consider general opportunities to improve work areas.
  • Make full use of SAP - SAP reporting & recording completion.
  • Understands and uses MMS principles tools and techniques, contributing positively to MMS ITFs

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • OND in Mechanical Engineering and others as applicable or equivalent.
  • Deep understanding and maintenance of bottling equipments i.e Fillers, cappers, recrater etc.
  • Demonstrate understanding of teamwork principles, continuous improvement, preventative maintenance and problem solving.
  • Demonstrate detailed understanding of Permit to Work system and GNPLC SHE policies, statutory requirements and responsibilities.
  • High level of energy and commitment to team based achievement and high interpersonal effectiveness to develop & sustain robust relationships.
  • 3 years’ experience/competence in rotating equipment, shaft and bearing maintenance. Performance Measurement in a brewery or drinks or food manufacturing environment.
  • Proven skills and experience in bottling principles and processes, SHE principles and procedures
